Didata to refresh Parmalat's systems

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NETWORK systems company Dimension Data has won a R60m five-year contract to upgrade and operate the information technology (IT) systems of Parmalat SA.

The outsourcing contract is designed to control the IT costs for Parmalat SA, a subsidiary of an international food company.

The relationship would see 10 Parmalat staff move to the Didata payroll, and would let the company accurately forecast its IT spending for the next five years and give it a stable technology platform, said Jaco van Lill, Parmalat SA's financial director.

Parmalat set up its SA branch in 1998 by acquiring two local dairy companies, Bonnita and Towerkop. But the merger of their two operations left Parmalat with some disparate systems.

"We needed to refresh our entire infrastructure, including servers, desktops, software and networking," said Van Lill.

"We also needed to be able to control IT costs. Negotiations with Didata resulted in the company taking over our IT department, and contracting a complete IT service back to us."

The deal would see Didata providing strategic consulting, network management and application support, monitoring and maintenance. One early step would be to switch the operations off the current Novell software system to one based on Microsoft software.

Didata would draw on the services and expertise of its international operations where it was necessary to look after Parmalat's 700 users in eight sites across the country.

Last week, Didata posted interim results showing an overall drop in profitability for the six months ending March this year.

Chairman Jeremy Ord said the company was putting more effort into offering business solutions such as outsourcing, rather than simply supplying equipment.

Can't we ban this dude. This is getting really annoying with all these posts and no comment or whatever. And this has nothing to do with the team either.

It was mentioned before in the FMs forum but well, as much as we don't like it, these dudes don't commit a bannable offence. They are damn annoying though... Anyhow, I'll bring forward your request and see what I can do cause this senseless article posting is irritating me as well.
