Here are some curious World Cup facts I've collected from a Danish web site. Feel free to add more info. :)

Did you know that...

Lothar Matthäus is the player who holds the record for most World Cup matches with 25 matches.

Mexican Antonio Carbajal holds the record for participating in most World Cups in the years 1950-1966

French Just Fontaine is the All time World Cup top scorer in a single World Cup. He scored 13 goals in 1958 in Sweden. German Gerd Müller scored 14 goals in his World Cup spell, but that was in more than one World Cup.

The highst number of goals scored in a single World Cup match is 12. Austria beat Switzerland 7-5 in World Cup 1954.

The higest number of goals scored by one team in a single World Cup match is 10. That happend in 1982 when Hungary beat El Salvador 10-1. In that game, the only hattrick ever by a substitute in a World Cup was scored as well. His name is Lazlo Kiss.

The record for most goals by one player in a single World Cup match was set by Russian Oleg Salenko with five goals when Russia beat Cameroun in World Cup 1994. He was also the top scorer of that World Cup.

Brazil is the country which has scored most goals in the World Cup. 173 in total. They are also the only country to qualify to all World Cups ever.

Germany is the country which has conceeded the most goals. 103 in total.

Ebbe Sand, Denmark, holds the record for the fastest goal ever by a substitute. It took him just 18 second to score when he came on against Nigeria in 1998.

The fastest goal ever was scored by Czech Vaclav Masek when he in 1962 scored after 16 seconds against Mexico.

Cameroun striker Roger Milla beat his own record as the oldest player (42 years and 39 days) to score in a World Cup when he scored against Russia in 1994. Brazilian Pele was the youngest (17 years and 239 days) when he scored against Wales in World Cup 1958.

Italian goalkeeper Dino Zoff is the oldest player to ever lift the World Cup trophy. That happend in 1982 when he was also the captain of his country.

Ooops! :wallbang: Both of you are right.

Both Matthäus and Carbajal played five World Cups, but Mattäus still holds the record for most matches played.
