Depor boss wants Viduka
Sportal

Deportivo La Coruna manager Javier Irureta has confirmed he wants to sign Leeds and Socceroos striker Mark Viduka if the club is forced to sell Diego Tristan, according to the News of the World.

Speculation has it that Roma will secure the signing of Spanish international striker Tristan for around £20million ($A54million) this summer and should that go ahead, Irureta has made it clear Viduka will be his top target as his replacement.

"Viduka is a class player and I want him in my side," Irureta said.

"If we sell Diego Tristan, I will move for him.

"We can't keep Tristan here if he wants to go. (Fabio) Capello has told me that he likes Tristan very much."

Ironically, less than 12 months ago, Roma was being touted as the next destination for Viduka but it now seems as though that interest has subsided.

Well, I hope Tristan stays which would be a major miracle of course.
Viduka is a class player? Since when? I don't want him at Depor and if Irureta thinks the fans will welcome Viduka like nothing happened he is wrong. He will be booed, it's THE Diego Tristan he might be replacing. I think there are really better players in Spain to replace Tristan. Pleeeeeeeaase, buy Luque !

Oh No! I hope Tristan stays! Viduka is not in the same class as Tristan! I'm sure he wants to stay at SuperDepor and win more Championships and Cups. Anyway Depor is the club where he has made his name and he cannot deny that Depor has done alot for him and his career.

Please Stay SuperDiego!

why would tristan want to leave the best team in europe? :confuse: well money does weird things to management and if a giant of europe offers 35 million pounds for tristan I s'pose hed take it....but I dont understand why teams rate viduka so highly, granted when hes hot he scores goals like they ARE going out of fashion, but Im sure there are better and FASTER strikers to buy, not to mention cheaper

Haha! Great reply, Kyo:D.

If Deportivo, the club wants to earn money, then why would they buy Viduka for the same amount of money than they sell Tristán for:eek:?? The Leeds chairman surely makes a discount if it comes to selling Viduka.

Amazing that Irureta finds something in this guy:eek:, and disappointing of course:(. There are Luque and Pauleta who are much cheaper and have so much more quality. I really don't get it:depress:. Pauleta could be bought for like around £10M, depends on his success at the WC, Luque is a bit more expensive IMO.

One possiblity, if Roma make an offer that the Deportivo board cannot reject, second one is that Tristán decides to leave to search for higher wages in Italy...:(. I guess he never will forget that he wasn't exactly loved by the Depor fans in the last season when he moved here. He has said that he likes to live in A Coruńa but isn't that what all players say:rolleyes:?

Viduka is a really good player guys. No offense, ut some of the stuff being written here is quite pathetic.
OK, so he may not be Tristan:eek: It's really difficult to find anyone of that class for cheaper money, and expect him to fill in the gap immediately:eek:
If Viduka would come for a reasonable price (20 mln $ maximum), I think you should greet him with open hands, cause he's quite a player. Contrary to his quite rubbust physique he posseses good skill on the ball, and would fit in in La Liga quite nicely. He's a powerful fellow, and in that regard he would more than just make up for Tristan:devil:

Of course, the ideal situation would be to have Tristan stay, but we all know certain things are in the hands of the allmighty;):embarass:

Viduka is most certainly a better possibility than Pauleta, who everyone here hails as if he was God himself:D:eek::tongue:

I don't follow the league as closely as some others, but it doesn't seem logical to sell tristan for 30mil dollars to buy viduka for 20million. 10mil? that's it.. considering that tristan is better and better integrated.. all that cost.. the associated costs of integrating a new player.. the risk of not fitting in, etc etc etc.

much better option would be to buy a good cheap young south american.. or if tristan really wants to leave.. buy a player of equal caliber.. and equal price... ex, trezuget, salas, crespo, lopez, larsson, angel, (i'm sure some of those are too expensive.. or not fitting witht eh style of the club, but you get the idea).

And why not Pauleta? He is certainly cheaper than Viduka, a lot cheaper. Plays for the Portugal NT. Is used to being an only striker up front at Bordeaux and scores a lot this way;). Viduka isn't used to Irureta's style of 4-5-1.
Even Alberto Luque would be cheaper than Mark Viduka and is used to la Liga. Luque to Depor !! (if Tristan leaves of course).

If we sell Tristan, we need a cheaper replacement, not an equal one, to pay debts.

swap your classy skilful forward for Viduka there must be some mistake :D

Viduka is the big lump who plays for Leeds maybe Iureta needs a new pair of glasses :D
Viduka has hit about five goals this year and his top speed is a slow jog ;)

Maybe you should flog Valeron to Italy as well and replace him with David Batty :D

Viduka denies Depor talk
Sportal

Aussie striker Mark Viduka has laughed off reports that Deportivo La Coruna is ready to pay £30million ($A81million) for his services before adding that he is happy at Elland Road.

"It is part of football that players are bought and sold and changes are made but I am happy at Leeds," he said.

"As I've said before I enjoy life up there, I love the club, the city and the fans and hopefully it won’t come to this."

"Deportivo must have a lot of money if they can bid that sort of amount but I know nothing about this offer and it's all just rumours."

The Primera Liga side's coach Javier Irureta has admitted that the Socceroos star is his prime target should Spanish international Diego Tristan leave the Riazor at the end of the season.

After a goal drought of 11 games, Viduka has scored in Leeds' last two Premiership matches but his goals could not help lift the Yorkshire side to victory.

He scored his 15th goal of the season in the 2-1 defeat at Tottenham on Easter Monday, a result that all but ends the Champions League hopes of David O'Leary's men.

The Australian international shrugged off the setback but promised that Leeds will continue to strive for a European spot.

Viduka said: "We're very disappointed with the result at Spurs and we felt we should have had an equaliser that we deserved.

"We've given away two silly goals again and we need to regroup now as the players here don't want to be involved in the Intertoto Cup and coming back early from our summer break, so we now have to work hard to make sure we qualify for Europe directly."

Its not really a swap when u think abt it, b/c depor should be left with loose change to the value of abt 15-17 million pounds.....Labas you over-rate dukes, hes not world class and for 20 million pounds there are many other strikers who are more consistant and quicker. Hed be nothing more than a reasonable buy IF he plays at the standard hes playing at right now at Leeds
