Portuguese newspaper Record have broken the story that Deco will be joining Chelsea from Barcelona.

This is more than just a rumor as apparently the player will make the announcement when Scolari makes the announcement.

No point in me posting the articles here since they're in Portuguese. I'm sure you'll see the English articles on this come out soon anyhow. Take my word for it, just like the Bosingwa transfer. It's done.

he is still a pretty damn good player...but the guy is 31...not a wise decision to get him and it's a short term solution and investment...but u have roman as your owner...who cares about $$$?? plus, big phil likes him...i don't particularly want deco at INTER...so i m ok with this move... :D

now, that means lampard is going to us... :(

Damn; I don't want Deco cant Real take him or something ;)
Oh please.

Chelsea have played one style for some time, and now you're getting Scolari with Deco and Bosingwa to offer alot more technique, class, and dynamic ability.

Deco is absolute world class under Scolari's system, and he'll bring you that dimension in the midfield you do not possess. You have the strength, the shooting ability, the rugged box-to-box play... and now you get the vision and ability to bring the ball through the midfield.

This is a great move for Chelsea provided Deco is signing the 3 year contract he's been rumored to sign with any team interested.

How about we take our chances with Diego, Joao or Veloso; no point in Deco at this stage. Lampard is 30; Ballack is 32; Maka is even older.

Players at that age need at least a season to settle into the EPL; Deco is a good player just not what I was hoping for. He will demand a first team place; no offense to Big Phil but he will create a major headache for himself if he signs Deco.

Sheva saga allover again

I don't buy that Deco can't play in the EPL. I've seen him over the years play against British opposition and looking comfortable. The best thing about it is that Deco will probably come cheap because of his age and because Barca have already publicly stated that he can go. A midfield of Deco, Ballack and Essien has a nice balance of everything. Even if Lampard does leave, Chelsea have already shown last season that they can cope without the goals he brings to the team. Chelsea do need to change their style though to get the best out of Deco though. I don't think the current set up of playing long ball and counter attack will get the best out of him.

In general, EPL idfield and especially defenders are rather harsh and brutal, they don't care much if you are technical, they just tackle you down. and if peopel already whine about Drogba falling too easy, then with Deco...

Deco falls down too easy but I don't think it will be the factor that will mean him not playing well in the league. Like you said, Drogba falls down way to easily, but he's probably the best striker in the league. The rough and tough stuff of the EPL is kind of overrated I feel. The league has players of high technique that succeed (Arteta, Hleb, Anderson, Elano etc...) . One part of Deco's game that is underrated is the fact that he is actually solid defensively and tackles quite often, but his diving antics just overshadow it. If Deco goes to Chelsea, the teams playing style is what will be the biggest factor. If they play the exact same stuff they play now then he will not play well, I guarantee it.

if we loose lamps this will greatly outweigh anythin we can gain with deco, lamps has great box to box play, he can tackle effectivly, hes strong and wants to play rather than go down, can hold up ball, can shoot better than most strikers and can lead the midfield somethin which im sure deco cant do.

Ballack is a better version of Lampard. You don't have a midfielder like Deco, nor have you had one for quite some time.

Why do Chelsea fans not understand you are adding a proper brain to your midfield? Enough of trying to slam a square peg into a round hole. Now you have Ballack's box to box ability, Deco's vision and passing, and Essien's all around work rate and skill.

Whew.....for a second I thought Moratti had f-ed it up yet again
Yes, midfielders like Stankovic, Dacourt, Vieira falling apart, etc. are clearly better alternatives.

Lampard is better, Quaresma is better, and Mancini is better. Yes I know they don't play the same f-in position, but as football midfielders they are much better.

Lampard is NOT better than Deco. Please refer to when these two players are against each other on the field. Barca-Chelsea and Portugal-England has seen Deco wipe the frigging floor with Lampard who barely sees the ball.

You admit Quaresma and Mancini don't play the same position, but say they're better midfielders. Uh, no, they're not. Deco's a midfielder. Mancini and Quaresma are wingers. How can these wingers be a better midfielder than the world class midfielder? Pretty clueless.

Who said they play the same f-in position? It is about adding quality to our team. It is about not adding washed up old stars like Vieira and Figo to our team. Quaresma, Mancini, and Lampard would be much better additions to our team than Deco. That's the bottom line.

In two posts, you've changed your stance.

You said those 3 were better midfielders.

Now you say it's just because they're younger.

Clearly, you are defeated and have no clue what you're talking about.

Your definition of midfielder doesn't match mine, now I understand. I meant any additions to the 3 and top 2 wingers in a 4-3-3 or the 4 in a 4-4-2 or the 3 and 1 in a 4-3-1-2.
