David Beckham faces being sent home from Japan before England's World Cup campaign has even begun.

Coach Sven Goran Eriksson has admitted he has made plans for being without his inspirational captain in both Sunday's opener against Sweden and the highly-charged confrontation with Argentina five days later.

And Eriksson accepts he may be forced to call up a replacement for Beckham early next week.

The Swede confirmed that Beckham experienced 'a small reaction' to his broken foot on Thursday when he said: 'There was a small swelling. But he has been working on it too much.'

As the England party arrived at their Japanese base on Awaji Island, Eriksson conceded that prognosis from his medical team on Beckham is not as optimistic as previously believed.

And the Manchester United star's World Cup dream is now in grave danger of being shattered.

Gerrad , Beckham , Dyer , Murphy....... Who is the NEXT one:fero:
