After yesterday's matches, semifinals will be so:

Baki - MKT-Araz
Hazar (Lenkoran) - Inter

Neftchi lost to Inter by penalties. Although played 10-men, since 37 second (!) and 9-men all overtime (!)...

Inter is really very good and solid team. I would say they have the best defence in the league.

Inter 2-1 Xazar

Araz 0-1 Baku

With this win I think Inter will win it all, they already beat Neftchi and Karabakh. This will be their best chance to get into Europe.

Unfortunately I watched the mach till the first goal only, and did't see how Inter came back. Samir Aliyev's goal was beautiful, though he terribly finished in the previous episode.

From the standpoint of our Eurocup interests I want Inter to take the cup as Khazar will take a place in european competitions anyway through either 1st or 2nd spot in the championship ;)

Today we had second lef of semifinals.

Baku tied 1:1 with MTK-Araz (in the first game Baku won 1:0) Goals from Fernando Peres for "Baku" and Murad Agakishiev for "Araz", and Baku advances to the final.

In the second game Khazar also tied 1:1 with Inter but it costed them a place in the final, as Inter had a 2:1 advantage after the first game. Goals from Lychkin for Khazar, and Makovsky for Inter.

So, we have Baku - Inter in the final game on May 28th.

This will be an interesting final and will change the situation in the league. Inter and Baku will use this as their best chance for Europe, so it should be a battle. I got Inter winning because they have come this far by beating much stronger teams and they are one of the hottest teams in Azerbaijan.

Not bad, not bad at all, I still wished Inter would have won, I think they would done well in Europe and they did great getting to the final of the cup. On the other hand, Baku has many good players and if Gomes, Perez, and Ladaga can play like this in Europe, then they can go past a few rounds. Anyway, I just hope they won't dissappoint us like Qarabag and Shamkir did last year.

Report of the game from UEFA.com

Baku claim first cup
Monday, 30 May 2005

FK Baku defeated FC Inter Baku 2-1 in extra time to win the Azerbaijani Cup for the first time.

Leandro opener
With both teams making their final debut, Baku quickly took the lead as their Brazilian striker Leandro Gomes struck after just five minutes. Inter seemed to have equalised soon after, but Agshin Omarov's goal was ruled out by the referee for offside.

Scores level
However, Inter managed to level after the break. Nigerian forward Lucky Idahor flicked Elmar Bakhshiyev's low cross into the centre of the area for Vladimir Makovski to score on 54 minutes. After that Inter took the initiative, but could create only one more clear chance as Ramil Sayadov headed wide in the final minute.

Ladaga winner
The game entered extra time, and Idahor was dismissed for punching Baku defender Ramin Guliyev after 113 minutes. Two minutes later André Ladaga's powerful 30-metre free-kick resulted in the winning goal for Baku, who earned their second UEFA Cup campaign having previously qualified by finishing as league runners-up in 1997/98 when they were known as Dinamo Baku.

Wait over
"I am happy to have scored the winning goal in the final," said Ladaga. "We waited a long time for this victory and we deserved it."
