The Croatian clubs will already learn their fate on Sunday as the qualification for the upcoming Euro cup seasons will be somewhat shorter, single elimination games with the exception of the CL playoffs which could be a positive for Croatian clubs who can easily win one off games and might pull an upset. This is the first, and only season for now, where 5 clubs will compete in Europe, which could be a negative as the coefficient will be divided by five rather than four so it's important that it's a successful season

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Dinamo Zagreb, Lokomotiva Zagreb
Dinamo actually do not yet know what round they start in, currently they will begin in the 2nd round but if both Napoli & Lyon lose in their Champions League Round of 16 fixtures they will move to the 3rd round. Dinamo will be seeded in the 2nd round (if they start there) and the third round, at the moment they are not seeded for the playoff. And for once Index.hr get their wet dream and Dinamo can actually draw Zvezda, as UEFA have gotten ride of most restrictions :D

Lokomotiva will start in the 2nd round of the 'League Path' qualifying and they are unseeded. Their potential opponents are Besiktas, Viktoria Plzen and Rapid Wien. If they progress they are guaranteed at least a place in the EL group stage, if they lose they will still remain in Europe and drop to the EL qualifying where they will be unseeded throughout

EUROPA LEAGUE: Rijeka, Osijek, Hajduk Split
Rijeka being the cup winners will enter the 3rd round so they won't know their opponents until September, they are on the bubble of being seeded, need some clubs above them to go out early

Osijek and Hajduk will begin in the 2nd round, Osijek are unseeded, Hajduk seeded

Croatia start the season in 19th place on the coefficient list and roughly three points behind 15th place Denmark, will be a tough task to get anywhere near that this season I feel, you really need at least two clubs in the group stages to have any shot, something what Scotland did last season who jumped up massively with Celtic and Rangers doing well in the EL

I'm not confident in this season. I hope I'm wrong. At least we get to see 2 Cro clubs in the CL quals. 馃榿

Dinamo's potential opponents for tomorrow's draw

  • Floriana (MLT)/CFR Cluj (ROU)
  • Ferencvaros (HUN)/Djurgardens (SWE)
  • KI (FAR)/Slovan Bratislava (SVK)
Could have been easier but really Dinamo are favorites against all three, though Cluj could pose some troubles especially in a one off game

Dinamo will play Cluj who beat Floriana 1:0

Also, because Lyon are eliminated from this seasons CL, it means Ajax moves into the group stage and Dinamo are seeded throughout the entire qualifying should they get that far

Mixed results today, Dinamo beat Cluj needing penalty kicks, match ended 2:2 with Cluj scoring in the 90th minute against 10-man Dinamo, in penalty kicks it went to 7 rounds with Dinamo only missing once. They are seeded in the next round and their potential opponents are: Molde (NOR), Midtjylland (DEN), Ferencvaros (HUN), Omonia (CYP), Dynamo Brest (BLR)

Lokomotiva lost to Rapid 1:0, apparently they were dominated in the first half but improved the 2nd half, though they lost too many players and didn't have the best preparation for this game. Loko drop to the EL where they will be unseeded in the 3rd round

No changes to the next round of the EL, Hajduk are seeded, Osijek unseeded

However due to many seeds already going out, Rijeka will be seeded in the 3rd round

Hajduk and Osijek know their potential opponents in the EL draw tomorrow, Hajduk will face a 'local' side, they are on paper favorites against all of them but you never really know, they have lost single matches in Slovenia and Macedonia in recent years. I guess the team to avoid is probably Olimpija if there is one. Osijek avoided the big guns but could still draw FC Basel, who while not what they once were a few years ago still are a seasoned European team who eliminated Frankfurt in the EL this past season

Hajduk: Olimpija Ljubljana (SVN), Renova (MKD), Kukesi (ALB)
Osijek: FC Basel (SUI), Jablonec (CZE), Hartberg (AUT)

Dinamo draw Ferencvaros again. I think they've improved since last time and we've obviously gotten worse, so i'm expecting a tough match. Still a loss here would be considered a big disappointment.

Croatian media totally overact to any draw involving Dinamo, while Ferencvaros away is tough: a) there is no fans and b) Dinamo haven't lost a qualifier in like 10 years it seems. In a one off anything can happen but Dinamo are still favorites

Hajduk draw Macedonian side Renova (away)
Osijek draw FC Basel (home)

Me talking to a Croatian friend:
-Cough uefa, all three rounds Fradi got the toughest opponent, Swedish, Scottish, and then the Croatian champions.
-Yeah, cough uefa, cus Dinamo also got the toughest possible opponents in the 2nd and the 3rd round too.
-Oh yeah, right.

Loko did well considering they were unseeded, though they look much weaker compared to last season. Rijeka could have done better as a seed, probably favorites at home, though to be honest never heard of that Ukrainian side, but Greek/Ukrainian sides are generally though to break down. Osijek if they progress past Basel will have a good chance at the playoffs. Hajduk has little chances against Gala if they get past Renova

Dinamo meanwhile in the playoffs drew the winner of Qarabag/Molde. The CL playoffs are two legs, so Dinamo should be favorites regardless (if they get by Ferencvaros) though they usually have panic inducing ties with these Scandinavian teams (Malmo, Rosenborg in recent years)
