I hope that the federation makes the efforts required to get the upcoming croatian talents born in several countries.
That was that Marc Brasnic (22 years old now) born in Germany who switched to Croatia. Guy was killing it at Leverkusen's youth team. Unfortunately seems he dropped massively. Fabian Benko from Germany also decided to choose Croatia who seemed to be doing well for Bayern Munich second team. He's now in Austria. Haven't followed him much. Was really hoping of taking Toljan away from the Germans. I think he's appeared only for the Olympic squad and youth teams. I wonder if it's still a possibility?
We had two potential players from Australia. One played for Dinamo's youth team and the other for Osijek. They both got called up for the U19 Croatian NT and appeared in one game. They're both playing in the A league now and have appeared for Australia's youth teams.

Right now we have Pasalic, Pongracic, Sunjic, Katic as our young dijaspora players. Kovacic is also young I guess.

Our match vs Hungary will be played in Split.
With the back and forth happening last few weeks doubt it happens and both sides will point fingers at each other and blame them. Remember the qualifier against Finland changed venues only a short time before the match so nothing is official yet. Hajduk and the Split mayor feel disrespected that the HNS announced this news without informing them and Hajduk are still demanding HNS reforms. Meanwhile the HNS did a slight provocation on their twitter doing a fan poll asking where the Hungary match should be played (after “announcing” the match will be in Split). Also naturally they are trying to make this a political issue as usual

Also any little referee incident in the HNL will be magnified, we saw it a few weeks ago at the U15 championship game involving Hajduk. My guess there will be another blowup and the game will be moved to Zagreb, possibly Osijek but venue is too small for a match which will probably be considered high risk by UEFA :howler:

I know Jozo Stanic from the Augsburg youth teams was on the bench for allot of Bundesliga games this year. Next year it seems he will have a more prominent role in the first team.

I think Benko barely played this year.

The Austrian u21 team has a few Croatians in there. Marko Kvasina, Adrian Grbic, Dejan Ljubicic, Ivan Ljubic, Dario Maresic and Petar Gluhakovic. That's quite a lot.

SVE ZBOG MOĆNOG ELFA?

NIJEMCI OTKRIVAJU: SPREMA SE VELIKA PROMJENA KOJA ĆE UTJECATI I NA HRVATSKU REPREZENTACIJU! Odluka UEFA-e pada već ovog utorka u Ljubljani?

https://sportske.jutarnji.hr/nogomet/liga-nacija/nijemci-otkrivaju-sprema-se-velika-promjena-koja-ce-utjecati-i-na-hrvatsku-reprezentaciju-odluka-uefa-e-pada-vec-ovog-utorka-u-ljubljani/9395252/?utm_source=Linker.hr&utm_medium=widget&utm_campaign=razmjena+prometa

HRVATSKA OSTAJE MEĐU ELITOM, UEFA ODLUČILA PROŠIRITI LIGU NACIJA Održan veliki sastanak u Ljubljani: Evo tko sve prijeti Daliću i društvu

SKUPINE LIGE NACIJA:

A LIGA: Hrvatska, Njemačka, Poljska, Island, Švedska, Ukrajina, Danska, Portugal, Nizozemska, BiH, Engleska, Švicarska, Belgija, Francuska, Španjolska, Italija.

LIGA B: Rusija, Austrija, Wales, Češka, Škotska, Norveška, Srbija, Finska, Slovačka, Turska, Republika Irska, Sjeverna Irska, Bugarska, Izrael, Mađarska, Rumunjska.

Liga C: Grčka, Albanija, Crna Gora, Gruzija, Sjeverna Makedonija, Kosovo, Bjelorusija, Cipar, Estonija, Slovenija, Litva, Luksemburg, Armenija, Azerbejdžan, Kazahstan, Moldavija

Liga D: Gibraltar, Farski otoci, Latvija, Lihtenštajn, Andora, Malta i San Marino.

I think that being involved in Nations league A changes the friendlies choices.

Already too many important games over the year. Against Georgia Dalic will probably try a mixed team like against Tunisia.

I've known about this guy for a while but it appears this is the first time he stated himself that the HNS contacted him

https://www.index.hr/sport/clanak/hrvatska-se-s-argentinom-bori-za-igraca-obecao-sam-djedu-razmisliti-o-tome/2122599.aspx

Matko Miljevic, American born (Miami), Argentinean attacking midfielder playing for Argentinos Juniors. He has played for both the US and Argentina youth teams (currently with ARG) but has connections to Croatia with his grandfather. He stated that the HNS contacted him and one club from Croatia was interested in signing him.

According to this article his grandfather was from Banja Luka but he is applying for Croatian passport, possibly so he could move to Europe easily (like Pulisic)

ASN article: On the rise with Argentinos Juniors, Miljevic discusses international options

Like most young players in Argentina, Miljevic dreams to eventually impress in the domestic league in order to make a jump to the top European leagues. His grandfather was born in Banja Luka (then in Croatia) and Miljevic is in the process of applying for a Croatian passport to facilitate a potential move in the future.

Croatia will be in Pot 2 for the Euro 2020 draw

It was announced prior to the Slovakia match but apparently they will play Russia in a friendly match in March

Dalic has issued a warning to both Kalinic and Sluga that if they don’t play in the spring they won’t go to Euro. He was willing to accept their status for qualifiers but told them personally now they must go somewhere to play. He says they are starting to closely monitor HNL goalkeepers now

I find it very exciting/interesting that we have quite a few "older" players from HNL (and abroad) who have become regulars for the NT. Guys like Petkovic, Livakovic, Rebic heck even Lovren, Vida and Vrsaljko were relatively unknown until their early to mids 20s playing for the NT.

Like where did Peric and Orsic come from? Just goes to show there's always a pathway open. Don't always have to be the next Messi from and make the NT at 18 like Kovacic, Vlasic, Brekalo. All these guys who were hyped up young talents that have dropped off the radar like Halilovic, Balic, Coric, Pjaca (injury but eh) etc can still find themselves and at the very least be useful for the NT like Rebic has.

**** I'm excited for next year ajmoooo

UEFA determined the format of the 2022 World Cup qualifying and it will be the same set up as Euro 2020 qualifying in terms of groups (10 groups, five with 5 teams, five with 6 teams) however only the group winners qualify automatically. The playoffs will consist of the 10 runners-up and the two highest ranked Nations League teams not qualified. Still not sure whether NL rankings or FIFA rankings will be used for seeding. If it is FIFA Rankings then Croatia should be fine for Pot 1, if its NL then its tough especially if they don't take it seriously

Also, the draw for the next Nations League is in March 2020. Croatia are in Pot 4 for League A with the other 'relegated' sides who were saved when UEFA expanded League A

Pot 1: Portugal, Netherlands, England, Switzerland
Pot 2: Belgium, France, Spain, Italy
Pot 3: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine, Denmark, Sweden
Pot 4: Croatia, Poland, Germany, Iceland
