Love this cup, always full of surprises!

Totally missed out Bayonne's promotion to the National, of course I still support them in here, Aupa Baiona!

Lyon is coming playing 15 min from my location.

Edit : Spoken too fast, it should be played at Guingamp or Lorient.

Knoert, from my (limited) knowledge of the Coupe de France, The lower team plays at home but this can be switched to another ground i.e. if a really small club draws a really big one.

Yeah, but in this case Concarneau declined politely the offers from Lyon. Concarneau stadium isn't big enough and "safe" enough though, to be allowed to play a game like this. That's why they found a new stadium with the Roudourou at Guingamp. (Which surprisingly is a smaller town but play at higher level).

Lucky, lucky Lorient. Going through on penalties after 2-2 aet. Alençon were the better side and deserved to go through but Daniel missed the penalty which would have seen them through. Alençon scored two good goals during the 90 minutes. Shame.

:( meh, I've had a soft spot for Calais ever since they reached the final in 2000.
Who doesn't have one?

Despite it's the port to England and also relatively close to Holland (as for places in France), they seem to be a sympathic club, also for me they were the example for cup surprises in France, I'll always remember them because of that. Because of the same reason I still remember a club/place called Schiltigheim, who did very well too, there's nothing better as cup football, especially in cup's with usually a lot surprises like the Coupe de France and on a lesser extent the FA Cup.

The French TV coverage has been very good from the games I have seen. Very much focused on the underdog. Filming in the dressing rooms at the beginning and at half time and interviews during the match with the managers and players who have been substituted. There is no sense of intrusion as the small clubs seem to welcome it as it is their time in the spotlight. By contrast the established bigger clubs, the opponents hardly get a look in. They are virtually ignored :)

The English FA could take a look at the French in the way they do things in the cup to spice things up a bit. From having the smaller clubs play automatically at home, to having the game decided on the day. All adds up to more potential shocks and the national cup in France is all about this. Very good competition.
