Valencia president Pedro Cortes has insisted that Gaizka Mendieta is not leaving the Mestalla.

The Valencia captain is the subject of attention from a number of Italy's top clubs with Roma reportedly leading the chase.

But Cortes says he would not swap his skipper for Zinedine Zidane, commenting: "I would not swap him for anyone in the World.

"I would not swap him for Zidane, and for that reason I am not going to lose a second of my life thinking about bids for him.

"Even if someone offered 6,000, million pesetas (£22 million) then Gaizka would still not be for sale."

Mendieta, who has been with Valencia for 8 seasons, has always insisted that he is happy at the club and that a move abroad does not appeal to him.
