Chivas and Pachuca In Libertadores...They join San Luis, already qualified for the South American prestigious Tournament.

The InterLiga 2009 featured great football, lots of goals, and nerve-wrecking penalty shootouts, but in the end champion Chivas and Pachuca took the tickets for the Copa Santander Libertadores 2009.

Pachuca Looking For Upset In Chile
Pachuca arrived in the Chilean capital, with the intention to pick up a positive result, as they look to reach the group stage of the 2009 Copa Libertadores.

The coach of the club, Enrique Meza, is confident in his team’s chances, despite the fact that they will be without key players Gabriel Caballero and Christian Gimenez.

Meza declared: “Whichever player who enters the field should do it in the best possible manner.”

He added that no matter both teams are only beginning to find their form this year, the match “will be played with a high intensity, and it will be highly disputed.”

Pachuca, who are the only Mexican club to have ever won a South American club competition, with the Copa Sudamericana of 2006 when they beat Colo Colo of Chile in the decider, are hoping to turn on the style, as they aim to qualify for the group stage of the competition.

“We arrive here with the intention to play a good match, and we will look for the result at all moments. We will intend to pick up a positive result that will allow us to be more relaxed when returning home (for the second leg),” explained Meza.

The clash promises to be one of the most exciting of the preliminary round of the Copa Libertadores, because it consists of two major clubs.

Nacional Asuncion over run El Nacional in the second half of their game in Quito winning 5-0. A mixture of good strikes and bad goalkeeping and the El Nacional defence laying out a red carpet in the centre of their defence to the Nacional Asuncion forwards led to a rout in the second period. Big gap in quality between the teams.

Goalscorers: Roman '51, Nunez (2) '56, '85, Caceres '70, Melgarejo '88.

The Ecuadorians NEED to score 6 in Paraguay !!!!

Paraguay’s Nacional hit five in Libertadores opener

QUITO, Jan 27, 2009

- Paraguay’s Nacional blasted five second-half goals to rout Ecuadorean army club El Nacional 5-0 away :eek: as the South American Libertadores Cup kicked off on Tuesday.

Raul Roman set the unfashionable visitors on their way when he fired the opener from long-range in the 50th minute of the preliminary round, first leg tie.

El Nacional, who had dominated the first half, fell to pieces and the visitors ran riot, apparently unhindered by the high altitude of Quito, which lies at 2,800 metres above sea level.

Midfielder Jorge Nunez helped himself to two goals while Ramon Caceres and Marcos Melgarejo added the others.

It was a dismal start for Ecuador after LDU last year become the first club from the country to win the tournament.

1-0 probably not enough for the U's going to Mexico Colo. Good atmosphere at the ground though.

Agree with you 100% ..... Final Score 1 x 0 ...Not enough for the away game in Pachuca, Hidalgo ..... UNLESS the Owls can PUSH themselves to more than what they did last nite....The AWAY goals are very VALUABLE in these stages .....

It's a shame that a famous and proud name like Penarol can be such a poor and limited side.
