Copa del Rey: Real Unión vs Real Madrid

Our first game in this season's edition of the Copa takes us to Irún at the stadium Gal (capacity only 5,000) to take on one of the oldest teams of La Liga, Real Union. They are currently in Segunda B and not doing too well but are a historic club and we should not take them too lightly. Schuster is going to have Dudek and co a game since our regulars really need a breather.

We have not won this competition in ages and im really hoping we take it seriously this season.

Anyone want to speculate on what our team will look like?

Nothing new on De La Red yet?

i hope its only a transient blood pressure problem as soon as they hook him on to an IV and load his system with fluids he'll do a lot better.
Well, I will ask the same question I ask every year:

Why the hell do we even play the Cup?

Is this a two-legged affair?
Yes, it is
Any news about Ruben? :(
Herald Tribune Sports

Real Madrid midfielder Ruben De La Red was taken to hospital after collapsing during his team's Copa del Rey match with Real Union on Thursday.

De La Red fell as he was walking away from the penalty area in the 13th minute of the fourth round first-leg match at Real Union's Gal Stadium.

The Spain international required treatment for two minutes on the field before being carried off on a stretcher.

Initial reports said De La Red suffered a sudden drop in blood pressure and recovered consciousness. However, the player was expected to be kept in hospital overnight for observation.
Marca reports that fortunately, it was only a low blood pressure that caused the collapse. According to the most recent reports, the player regained consciousness.

sounding better, lets keep our fingers crossed
I'm keeping him in my prayers tonight.
I wish nothing but the best for him.
fingers crossed for dlr
That really scared me. My immediate thoughts were on Antonio Puerta as soon as I saw what happened. I hope things go well.

News I've heard from Marca(Yeah I know) is that he's recovered and with his teammates. But thats not a little thing to me. Its very worrying.

Moe i know you're a doctor, so i wanted to ask if this sudden drop in blood pressure normal? does it just happen out of the blue? or is it lack of vitamins and fluids in teh body? cheers.
Thanks for the news, Moe.

no it is not normal. I dont know what exactly happened with dlr, what we see in front of us however is syncope (fainting) which could be due to 10s of reasons ranging from as simple as low glucose, vasovagal syncope, to complex cardiac rhythm problems.

If this is in fact a sudden drop in blood pressure then it must be evaluated. At the top of my head i would think of simpler things like dehydration and vasovagal syncope... but the causes are diverse and he could be taking some medications that affect blood pressure or have some kind of undetected internal bleeding that lowered his BP.

of course an underlying undetected heart disease interfering with the pump of the heart is what you would fear most

I hope its nothing major in his case, but they are right to keep him in the hospital for investigation because the body responds immediately to the drop in pressure and restores pressure through your nervous system but that doesnt mean that the cause has been eliminated

but this is a finely tuned athletic person we are talking about.. so if this isnt cardiac i nature then he's just having a vasovagal episode which is nothing to worry about.
cheers for the insight Moe, appreciated.
oh no problem at all mate!

hope the news will be positive and we can all start our day happily tomorrow
Hope DLR get well soon guys...
Any update guys?

All the best wishes.. Hope he recovers ASAP!!!

Forza RUBEN!
Woouu Moe...........

I hope it's nothing serius....I mean, it can't be....Ruben!:scared:
Thanks Moe...

Let keep DLR and his family in our thought & prayers, this is not about something trivial like football but serious concerns for the health of a very young.
i trust he will be ok

go back ruben !
