Copa del Rey: Real Unión vs Real Madrid

Our first game in this season's edition of the Copa takes us to Irún at the stadium Gal (capacity only 5,000) to take on one of the oldest teams of La Liga, Real Union. They are currently in Segunda B and not doing too well but are a historic club and we should not take them too lightly. Schuster is going to have Dudek and co a game since our regulars really need a breather.

We have not won this competition in ages and im really hoping we take it seriously this season.

Anyone want to speculate on what our team will look like?

I am a bit unsure as to how the team will set up, just because a few players have just come back, and others may be rested the whole week for the coming weekend (a la RVN).

I'd expect Dudek to start, but then the back line is a mystery. Possibly Ramos getting a game, Canna to keep him sharp, Metzelder and Marcelo. I would expect the midfield to be Diarra, DLR and Guti to give them a little match fitness and DLR a game after being rested at the weekend, then up top maybe Drenthe, Raul and Saviola. With Saviola and Drenthe providing a little more pace, Raul can occupy the central role and use that poachers instinct he has to better effect. After Higuain's killer game against Bilboa, he deserves a rest I think, and maybe Raul can get a couple and his confidence will get a boost.

To summarise I will take a wild guess at:

Dudek

Ramos - Canna - Metzelder - Marcelo

Diarra - DLR

Guti

Drenthe - Raul - Saviola

I'm I missing something with Drenthe being on the right side...

I no longer can watch the match's due to my satelite provider no longer carring Goltv

Right, left, it doesn't matter. He can change throughout the game, and my formation on an internet forum isn't the 100% gospel truth as to how it should or will be :howler:.

It's simply there to show he will be part of the front three, that's all.

Raul will not play.. I am sure of it. We might actually see Ruud play instead of Higuain but Raul, Pepe, Heinze and Robben are the players I'm pretty sure will not be even on the roster.

i think RB will still be S2 . MT cant play now cos injury

and i wish they call palanca for this match if the team needs a RW

Sukery , I noticed that Villafane has been training with the first team last week maybe he will get a call , although Bernd had barely called a castilla player to any match even in CDR las season

IMO villafane was called by schuster cos whole castilla was in merida at that time.

villafane played for castilla only once in this season . the first RB choice always is velayos,who already scored twice in 9 matches ( one of those is a great FK )

So we have officially converted JG into a CB or what? I think he's a great midfielder and its really sad that we are doing this to him. You can visibly tell he doesn't like playing there.

Official line-ups aren't released until 45 minutes before kick-off. Anything else before then is purely guess work on the part of posters here, there and everywhere, as well as the likes of AS and Marca.
