Ugo Ehiogu insists a sell-on clause in his contract is keeping him at Aston Villa - and becoming a millstone round his neck.

Ehiogu is desperate to quit Villa, has already seen boss John Gregory turn down a £6million bid from Manchester City.

And he reckons Gregory is holding out for more because HALF of any fee must go to the player's former club, West Brom.

Ehiogu said: "I would be keen to talk to anyone who is willing to make a bid for me.

"But it didn't surprise me this bid was rejected. Villa are over-valuing me because of this clause.

"Anyone wanting to buy me probably has to pay 1½-times my real value because Villa only get half the fee."

City, meanwhile, insist they will increase their bid - but are still waiting to hear how much Villa actually want for the England star.

Maine Road chairman David Bernstein said: "The matter is in Villa's hands. We made an offer, but we are flexible. We are prepared to move the bid up a little but we don't know what they are asking.

"They have not yet come up with a finite amount. When they do we can react."
