I still cannot agree with the point (re: Turkish football), even if Fener advanced to the final and won it. (Porto did a few years ago, right?)
It owes a lot to the Zico syndrome and if Chelsea couldn't overcome it at the Bridge, they'd be the next prey. They study about the team, watching key CL and recent domestic games, alright. Who this coach is and how he manages. Fener have good players, but none to draw top European scouts willing to put €10-15m on the table.
They should thoroughly study Fener's starters in recent games and never take light of any element. And when Zico sends in someone, they should treat him as absolute menace who will turn the match all round to Fener's, even if he has none of the top-league pedigree. Because Zico, who looks like a half-retired gardener, can smell a winner and the team know it, unlike you, Grant, Jimenez, and Ten Cate.
It looks like RC and Semih will start against Kayseri, who claim they are deprived of G.Ünal and M.Topuz and have no interest in the league.
Im pretty impressed I read through this entire dribble. I don't think I ever found a point worth discussing about logically. I mean, sure, essentially you make fairly obvious and valid points such as:
"If Chelsea couldn't overcome it at the bridge, they'd be the next prey" - Referring to the "Zico Syndrome".
And your "Study of the team" and so forth.
Essentially you are speaking in terms of Chelsea's point of view, and discussing the formula for them to succeed and beat Fenerbahce, which is fair. I don't know if you want Fenerbahce to go through or not, that's really up to you, but have some balance in your post at the very least.
I don't think there is anything in your post that suggests anything really positive for Fenerbahce, other than riding on someone's 'syndrome'. In which case, I don't even know if you put Zico's syndrome in a positive connotation or not, or if you are just flat out claiming it's just a run, as luck would have it.
Another problem with the post is just not knowing what you're talking about. Claiming that none of our players would go for 10-15 million Euro's is just pure ignorance. Let's take a look at a few examples.
1) Elvir Balic, Transferred to Real Madrid for 15 million dollars, and I mean if we really wanted to get technical, we can adjust that for inflation and that would be approximately 19-20 million.
2) Jay Jay Okocha, Transferred to PSG for 17 million dollars in 1998, inflation adjusted, we're looking at 21 - 22 million.
3) Nicolas Anelka, Transferred to Bolton for 8 million pounds, approximately 10 million Euro's.
Just FYI I put down Dollar figures for you to try and strengthen your argument to no avail, I was seeing figures that were in Pounds even.
So, here we are. 3 players as an example.
First thing that comes to mind is, how did we sell these guys for so much? Well they are good, sure, Okocha was probably the best of the lot in terms of how much he gave to the team. Nicolas Anelka probably did the least of the three, but still scraped away with 10M.
In all of these era's, Fenerbahce has never been so successful Europe.. Ever.
None of these guys were in the top 5 of goal scoring or assist leaders in Europe. None of these guys have been selected in any sort of team of the week honor in European competition. Yet, they have been valued well within the constraints you provide us, that we supposedly could not attain right now with the current crop of players we have

.
What makes this claim even funnier, is the fact that we have a guy like Alex de Souza, who has literally tore apart the Turkish League for years, who is now putting in numbers in the Champions League that he usually does in Turkey (1st in the Assists category, where any world class playmaker should be), and we have Deivid de Souza, who has perhaps singlehandedly saved this team on multiple occasions with fantastic highlight reel goals, which will be a worthy piece of next years Champions League intro I assure you. Further, him and Appiah did a nice duet on our claim for the championship last year. Oh, and he's tied for 3rd among goalscorers in the Champions League, 2 goals behind the best Winger in the world right now.
You are telling me that none of these players will attract 10-15 Million Euro's? I think you need to seriously reconsider.
Zico looks like a half-retired gardener?
If that was in a negative sense as in, "even Zico, a guy who looks like a half-retired gardner, can smell a winner" see, like, I don't even know what you mean, I don't know if English is your first language, but if you live in the US, you should do a better job typing something, it's really difficult for people to understand.
At any rate, if that was a negative statement at Zico, then have some respect for a guy who has been nothing more than a punching bag for the media in his inaugural season at the club. Knowledge of the game, determination, and heart is what made this guy successful, no matter how poor of a gardener he may be. :rollani:
