Fair play is rare in hostile enviroments! What a goal Messi scored to win the game wow! But the Ukranian keeper was really weak on the first goal. Luce deserved better. Perhaps Rat would of helped stopping Messi lol
Setanta is replaying the game at 7:30 pm in Canada and at 9:15 pm in the US if anyone has the channel and wants to see the full match again.
Thanks

CFR Cluj make their point as Chelsea falter

1907 Cluj proved their Matchday 1 victory at AS Roma was no flash in the pan as they held Chelsea FC to a 0-0 draw in Transylvania on Wednesday.

Drogba injured
No one gave the Romanian champions much of a chance against last season's UEFA Champions League runners-up, but they emerged with a point after a game in which both teams struggled to carve clear scoring chances. Chelsea dominated possession, especially in the second half, and Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba came close. For the home side Eugen Trică missed a glorious opportunity before half time and hit the outside of the post in the second. Both sides now have four points and share the lead in Group A, but Chelsea's biggest concern will be an injury to Drogba who was carried off in the second half.

Even opening phase
It did not take much to get the vociferous home support going. After only two minutes they roared their approval after Petr Čech had to rush from his area to clear after Sebastián Dubarbier had broken free. The hero of Rome, Juan Culio, had a few promising runs down the left, and almost released Dani after eleven minutes but the Portuguese midfielder had strayed offside. A minute later Trică's long-range snapshot sailed harmlessly over. After 22 minutes a flowing end-to-end Chelsea move, orchestrated by John Mikel Obi, culminated with Drogba blazing wastefully over. Lampard then forced Eduard Stăncioiu into a low diving save soon after.

Missed volleys
The best opening came after 27 minutes, when Dubarbier's lofted pass found Trică free just inside the box, but he snatched at the volley and the ball trickled well wide. On the half-hour mark only a last-ditch tackle by José Bosingwa stopped Alvaro Pereira as he bore down on goal. Trică's second volley of the evening on 33 minutes had much more venom but lacked accuracy. Minutes later Pereira's rifled low shot from the left evaded Čech's dive but whistled narrowly past. Just before half-time Lampard found Drogba with a low free-kick from the right but the Ivory Coast striker missed the ball completely. The first 45 minutes drew to a close with Cluj comfortably holding their own.

Cluj pinned back
Cluj started the second half brightly, with Gabriel Mureşan drilling in a free-kick from fully 30 metres that Čech gathered at the second attempt. But right away Chelsea came even closer, with Nicolas Anelka, on for Salomon Kalou, setting up Lampard, whose close-range effort was deflected behind by De Sousa. The Brazilian defender came to his side's rescue again when he intercepted Florent Malouda's dangerous low cross under pressure from Drogba, who was carried off injured following the challenge. The London side were pinning the Romanian champions back for lengthy spells.

Close shave
Chelsea were determined to go for victory and brought on 19-year-old Franco Di Santo for Malouda. The Argentinian forward had barely been on the pitch when he outjumped Stăncioiu to head just wide. But with ten minutes remaining Cluj came closest of all, Trică's left-foot shot shaving Čech's right-hand post. The Chelsea keeper then made a magnificent one-handed save from Pereira as Cluj again proved they are a match for the best in European club football.

Wow just saw the highlights. Cluj played better than Steaua did yesterday. I think Becali must be on some good medication. Cluj looked the more dangerous of the 2 in those highlights. What a miss by Trica, that goal would of made my week and sent Cluj into a non stop party for weeks!
imo Steaua had more and better chances, of course the game yesterday was something completely different because Fiorentina left Steaua a lot of space for their counters/attacks. today both teams played very secure therefore it was hard for both teams to score, CFR got what they wanted.

i watched both games for 90 minutes and Steaua were clearly better but Fiorentina isn't on par with Chelsea
they made quite a few mistakes there
good result for CFR but we can be certain that they will probably lose to Chelsea away... they were just too powerful
A tie is all you really hope for with a CL debutant versus the CL and EPL runners up. Very impressive that we actually held them to 0 goals, Chelsea has been scoring boat load of goals lately. I can't wait for the double against Bordeaux.

Lupi that banner in that picture with Draculio is priceless. The students in Cluj really have alot of time on their hands lol!
Bravo CFR!

What impressed me most about the game is how even it was. Chelsea´s individual superiority didn´t show at all, and even the individual duels were overall won by CFR:eek:. Physically it was also really even. If we didn´t know who the teams were there was no way to tell who was Chelsea judging by this game, as CFR also had the better chances. Considering that Chelsea is one of the most effective teams in the world and that Cluj has barely no experience we have to be very happy. Luckily, we were wrong about CFR.

BTW Muresan is doing fantastic:thumbsup:
i have to disagree there rumi... especially players such as Culio, Trica and Tony struggled against those physical monsters BUT they were just very determined and fought their way out... Chelsea had more than 60% possession so it was quite obvious who dominated there ;)
they still had more and better chances than Chelsea...who cares about possession
Well, what do we want? To have more possesion, to be stronger, to dominate and to beat the Premiership leaders? Let´s keep the feet on the ground.

4 points from 6 possible against Roma and Chelsea is more than decent for a Romanian team.
I agree with Gica but I think its exaggerated to say that CFR and Chelsea were even :pp
They were in yesterday game. Chelsea got more possesion but that´s normal. They didn´t create a single real chance; just one by Anelka in the final minutes.

The draw was a fair result.

Like GICA said, CFR had the better chances, they were better than Chelsea in this game. Throughout the game i didn´t see the difference between the teams and players. And that is even more impressive in the light of what happened in UEFA.
Drogba's trip to Transilvania

I don't think Drogba will be coming back anytime soon to Transilvania, maybe for some "tratamente".

He's out for 6 weeks after being subbed off in obvious pain in the 60th minute last night. He will have vengence in his eyes when we visit him in the last fixture at Stamford bridge.
He got injured by himself, so it could be in Transilvania or in Madagascar.

And he can be happy with 6 weeks. It could be even more serious.
