Well, it's time for the talking to stop and the action to start. It's amazing to think our very first competitive match of the season could have such a significant bearing on our whole campaign. Champions League qualification has become one of the major benchmarks on how we measure the relative successes and failures of our season, and FBK Kaunus certainly won't be the pushovers we would have hoped for at this early stage.

It's seemed like a summer of crisis for the club after our capitulation at the end of last season, heated debate over our pre-season signings, and now major injury concerns, so it will be very interesting to see how the players react to the challenge on Wednesday. Our most important player (Carlos Cuellar in case there was any doubt) will be missing, as well as captain fantastic. With this in mind, it's time for other players to step forward and show leadership; something I thought was glaringly missing towards the end of last season.

Anyway, Walter will no doubt set the team up not to concede on Wednesday and hopefully sneak a couple of goals. I just hope we play some football this season.

Possible team:

------------------McGregor------------------
Dailly----------------------------------Papac
------------Broadfoot-----Weir---------------

-------------------Hemdani-----------------
-----------Thomson------McCulloch----------
--Novo-------------------------------Miller--
-------------------Velicka-------------------

2-0 is probably our ideal result. Fingers crossed.

I'm worried as well if you hadn't guessed.

I think we got 2 late goals to beat Kaunas 4-1 at Ibrox the last time, and that was when we had players like Ronald De Boer and Albertz in midfield.

Hopefully last night isn't an accurate refelction of what we're going to be watching this season, but if Murray doesn't open his ******* chequebook then I think it will be. Abysmal football.

Booing Kenny Miller isn't going to solve anything, but I understand why people are doing it. If he scores a lot of goals it'll be forgotten, but he won't because he's not good enough.

tonight team

McGregor;
Whittaker, Broadfoot, Weir, Papac;
Dailly; Novo, McCulloch, Thomson, Adam;
Miller

Dailly chosen over Hemdani for the holding role :howler:
McCulloch, Adam, Broadfoot and Miller are the other highligths

Starting to think its time for Smith to go whatever the outcome of tonights game is

Well, that was very much like watching the scotland international team in disguise. Well deserved win by kaunas, looks like dailly was the main culprit, and mcgregor was real rusty.
Without Ferguson and Cuellar - the team is as good as a pub one. You really need to getmore depth; what happened to the 8 million odd from hutton? Although with signings like kenny miller - I wouldn't trust WS for 1 sec with it.
Only consolation is being able to concentrate fully on the league, like strachan's first season with celtic, but if you don't win the league this year - then you never will with WS.

thats an insult to a pub team! the 8 million for hutton has been already spent - lafferty, 3,5 million, velicka 1 million, miller 2 million and boughera 2.5 million.

With Smith and the current squad we will be struggling for 2nd in the league.

Congratulations Kaunas, you've just proven Vladimir Romanov correct about Scottish referees: When games are played on a level playing field, Rangers struggle.

considering we played the 2nd most amount of games in europe last season that any team has ever played, you really have a good point there :rolleyes:
