Everton thrashed Colo Colo 3-0, with two goals from Argentine striker Ezequiel Miralles, as they lifted the Chilean Apertura Championship in stunning fashion. It was their first title win in 32 years.

Colo Colo, who were the favourites to win their fifth successive Chilean title, had won the first leg of the tie 2-0 in Santiago, after two late goals, but they were in for a huge shock in the return leg in Vina del Mar.

Former Chilean national team coach Nelson Acosta guided them to a memorable title victory, their first since 1976. The title means Everton will participate in the 2009 Copa Libertadores.

Everton completely dominated their opponents at a Sausalito stadium that was packed by more than 15,000 fans. Ezequiel Miralles was the star of the night, scoring twice (46' and 76'), while Jaime Riveros scored Everton's other goal (71').

Colo Colo coach, Fernando Astengo, was frustrated by Everton's offensive capacity, and his team were no match for the team from Vina del Mar, which put on an outstanding performance that will stay in the memory of the Everton fans for many years to come.
