Paraguay captain Jose Luis Chilavert unleashed an extraordinary attack on Australia's players on Friday, accusing them of rough-house tactics and unfair play.
Speaking through a translator after the teams battled to a scoreless draw in the first match of their three-game series, Chilavert said he was shocked by the Australians' physical play. "That was not a proper way to play a friendly," he said. "They seemed to have red in their eyes -- they weren't like normal footballers.

"It was like a game of rugby out there, not football." Paraguay coach Sergio Markarian said he was also disturbed by the Australian tactics and called for more restraint in the remaining two games of the series. "We are involved in World Cup qualifiers. We don't want our players to get injured here," he said.
