Chiesa: "The only remedy. Sell us."

This is the declaration by Chiesa to 'Stadio' with regards to the possible cutting of wages. "It will be difficult to find anyone to take a cut down in wages. It's the first time I've come across such a situation. I don't want to even think about football disappearing from Florence. The only solution is one. Sell the players."

Viola want to keep Chiesa Wednesday 8 May, 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Debt-ridden Fiorentina have revealed that they want to keep star striker Enrico Chiesa despite their relegation to Serie B.

The international was believed to be almost certainly leaving the Artemio Franchi with plenty of interest from a number of Serie A clubs – especially Lazio.

"We’ve never talked about a transfer fee with the Biancocelesti because firstly we want to keep Enrico and secondly because we are not in talks with Lazio for him," said Viola director Giuseppe Pavone.

"They have contacted us to enquire about his fitness but that is it. I can only repeat again that we haven’t placed a price on Chiesa’s head because it is our intention to keep him for next season."

The former Parma striker, heavily linked with a move to Lazio last September, has missed almost the entire season after damaging knee ligaments.

His current Viola deal doesn’t expire until 2005.

Chiesa close to Viola exit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enrico Chiesa is unlikely to remain at relegated Fiorentina next season according to his agent.

"Enrico wants to stay in Florence but it seems very doubtful that the club will be able to keep hold of him," said Vincenzo Rispoli.

The Tuscan outfit did admit earlier this week that they had wanted to keep Chiesa for the Serie B campaign, but the debt-ridden club’s financial situation is likely to see him sold.

The former Parma striker has been linked with Milan, Juventus and Lazio. With the latter seemingly favourites to sign him according to Rispoli.

"Lazio do want him and Chiesa would be very happy to team up again with Roberto Mancini who will be their Coach," the agent added.

Chiesa has missed most of this season with injury after he damaged knee ligaments last September. But Rispoli has confirmed that fitness wise there is nothing to worry about.

"He’s in great condition and is ahead of schedule for his rehabilitation programme. He’s getting better all of the time," he concluded
