Dinamo challenge awaits Brugge
Friday 21 June 2002

Club Brugge KV, beaten finalists in the 1977/78 European Champion Clubs' Cup, will start their 2002/03 UEFA Champions League campaign with a tricky tie against Romanian champions FC Dinamo Bucuresti after the draw for the first two rounds of the competition took place at the NOGA hotel in Geneva, Switzerland, today.

The two clubs suffered contrasting fortunes on the final day of their respective domestic seasons as Dinamo wrested the Romanian championship from FC National Bucuresti, and Brugge handed the Belgian title to KRC Genk with a shattering 5-3 defeat by K. Sint Truidense VV. Brugge, who were undone by a Kenny Dalglish goal as Liverpool FC lifted the trophy 24 years ago, will be at home in the first leg of their second-round meeting.

Go Dinamo Go .... I am of course a Anderlecht and Steau-fan (and CFC) ... but what I want to say ... Dinamo please, we hate Bruges, so let them know who's the best !! :fero: :D

Bruges boss fears worst against Dinamo

Monday 24th June 2002

Club Bruges coach Trond Sollied is far from happy with a second round Champions' League qualification tie against Romanian giants Dinamo Bucharest.

"This is the worst possible scenario for us," he said. "They are a very tough team to play. The Romanians do not have many big names anymore - there is no Hagi or Popescu - but they still have their traditional playing style.

"They have it all: speed and technical ability. Dinamo beat Steaua to the title last season and narrowly missed out on the double. That's how good they are."

Sollied is anxious to receive a technical report on his opponents. "I do not know the precise details of their team yet," he said. "I hope we have the chance to watch them a few times before we have to face them.

"I have heard that at home they are very strong," he added."The Romanian summer heat might also be a disadvantage for us."

Bruges meet Dinamo in Belgium in the first-leg on July 31 and in Romania on August 7 for the return.

Dinamo will play on the stadium Cotroceni the second leg of the Champions LEague tie against Club Brugges. The reason is that Dinamo's stadium is not up to international standards. The game will be held on August 7, at 9:00 PM. (Prosport)
