So we will be facing one of those teams:

Sporting
Atlético Madrid
Villarreal CF
Olympique Lyonnais
Arsenal FC
Real Madrid CF

I'd be happy with Sporting, content with Atletico, Lyon and Villareal, nervous but not scared with Arsenal and Real. I feel we are currently superior to both, but they are big teams which can show their true value when it matters.

I am thrilled that we avoided Barca, ManU, Liverpoor and Bayern. Topping the group was totally worth it. (I hope )

P.S
Damn you Inter, we could've had a chance to get Panathinaikos.

I hope we get Sporting or Lyon. Atletico and Villareal would be difficuly. As you say Real and Arsenal would be the toughest draws.

The CL draw will take place next Friday, September 19th.

Here are the final 16:

Group A: Roma, Chelsea

Group B: Panathinaikos, Inter

Group C: Barcelona, Sporting Lisbon

Group D: Liverpool, Atletico Madrid

Group E: Manchester United, Villareal

Group F: Bayern Munich, Lyon

Group G: Porto, Arsenal

Group H: Juventus, Real Madrid

With our luck, we will draw Arsenal or Atletico Madrid.

ABA. Anyone but Arsenal. And Real. Psychologically, I'm not sure we could take them down two years in a row, especially now that they have fired their idiot coach. Still very thankful we placed first in the group.

Yeah our attacking trio can do troubles to their shaky defence, their attacking game does not seem to be that effeceint. However you never know which face they decide to show on matchday. On their day, they can beat anyone.

Roma would absolutely murder Real Madrid, even worse then last year.

This entire Champions League campaign has evolved so that Roma might actually have a chance to appear in the Rome final for the first time in 24 years.

It doesn't matter who Roma face, everything everything depends on Totti. For the first time ever Totti has finally become a real leader, the primadonna, GQ magazine, tabloid nonsense is behind him....finally its about the football and football only.

Totti is practically the last remaining modern player of his ilk in upper tier competition; as a result the refereeing by Italian and European officials alike has been like a resounding unison of support.

The football community want Totti to win, what has to happen from now until May is a continuation of what we're seeing: the entire team as a collective responding to Totti's majesty by playing off him continuously but more importantly staying healthy in the process.

The time for Roma to succeed in this competition is right now. If Rosella sees this then management need to be ballsy and spend some money they don't have. (Typically I would never advocate that kind of financial gambling in the wake of economic calamity, but the window is short and moves should be made).

Juan and Mexes will be the cornerstone of Roma's potential success in Europe this season, but I would strongly insist the Roma spend a few dollars on some back-up CB's preferably vets who will accept smaller contracts in exchange for short term security. Also do everything possible to get a vet striker (preferably a target man) on a short term deal (or loan) for late game situations where Roma can be more effective on set-plays.

Again, if people start to believe that this can happen then maybe we'll actually see it which would be an incredible feat considering the contrast in spending and infrastructure between Roma and the European elite. The trump card for Roma is Totti; everything depends on him.

Lyon doesn't look this scary now, we beat them when they had a better team and we had much less options in the squad, so I wouldn't mind them.

Sporting gave us a really hard time last season, so we shouldn't underestimate them, but they still look a bit easier to beat than the Spanish trio.

Arsenal - you never know which Arsenal will show up, the one who loses to EPL minnows or the one who can beat Man Utd and Chelsea. They have lots and lots of pace in the squad, which would be a problem for us, but with the right strategy we have a chance.

Anyway, there aren't clear easy or bad draws here, and lots can change until February. I am just happy we avoided Man Utd and Barca for now, all the rest don't scare me.

Really i like to avoid Arsenal i think they are the hardest team in all the teams that we can face especially that it is a team that can beat anyone on their day + they will concentrate on CL only because, by feb they will lose complete faith in the Premier League.
I wont be happy to draw Real either.
Sure i would like Sporting/Villreal (not a bad option),Atheltico is a very dangerous team (the 3rd team i dont want to face after arsenal then Real).

Prediction :ARSENAL

As I said in the Arsenal forum... for Roma as a club, a good draw. No easy draw really and Arsenal's 'style' is inconsistent so Roma need to hope its one of them days.

We don't get one of them days against the Italians.
Respecting the fact that you beat Inter 5-1 that year, you also lost 3-0 to them at home... however generally Arsenal have had the better recently, but me being an Arse fan myself in the EPL would realise that this is the worst squad of Arsenal's for some years. Generally Roma suck v English teams but it didnt stop us beating Chelsea easily in Rome. The fact is, what happens, happens, I cant say that Arsenal are better than Roma or that Roma are better than Arsenal and I cant see why the pundits on SSN are talking about Roma as if we are some mickey mouse club in comparison to Juve and Inter. We dont have the depth of either, but on paper, our first team is very good and right now our tactics are working. In february, we will see.

Why is anyone giving weight to two group games between a laughable Inter and Arsenal five years ago, and pretend that it matters and that we can extrapolate the future from it somehow? Not as if that Inter could be any more different than this Roma if they tried.

Bring them on. They're nothing. We'll destroy them. **** scaramanzia.

inconsistent, don't make me laugh? :dielaugh: we are unbeaten in three league games now, and we soon to get back the world class trio of Eduardo, Walcott and Rosicky who will cut youe defence to ribbons.
