For the first time, a team from the legendary and famous region will compete with the strongest European clubs in the Champions League.

CFR Cluj won today their first Romanian title, with 1 point over Steaua. They will play directly in the groups stage of the CL, while Steaua will play the qualifying round. For the first time since 1991 a non-Bucharest team win the title.

CFR were the most regular team since the very beginning and a shaky end of the season was not enough to lose the title. They could win the Cup next weekend in the final against Unirea Urziceni.
Owner Arpad Paszkany invested a lot of money to make a competitive squad full of foreigners, and it´s announced that he will invest more now.

Main players this season were: the defender and captain Cadu (Portuguese); the midfielders Dani (Portuguese), Culio (Argentinian), Trica (Romanian) and Dubarbier (Argentinian); and the strikers Semedo (Portuguese), Fabbiani (Argentinian) and Didi (Brazilian) who got injured months ago. The topscorer was Trica.

So congrats to them! maybe big teams like ManU, R.Madrid or Inter will visit Dracula´s ground the next season ;)

Anthem

CFR Cluj is a Romanian football club from the city of Cluj-Napoca. It is currently playing in Liga I, Romania's top football league. The letters in the name stand for "Cãile Ferate Române" (Romanian Railroads), the national administration body for railroad transportations.

The club was founded in 1907, when the city of Cluj was part of Austria-Hungary. The club’s original Hungarian name was Kolozsvári Vasutas Sport Club (K.V.S.C.) and represented the railway workers' team. From 1907 to 1910, the team played in the Municipal Championship of Kolozsvár (today Cluj-Napoca). However, the club did not have any notable achievements during this time.

In 1910, the team won the newly organized Championship of Transylvania. The club consistently finished second place in that competition between 1911 and 1914, a competition that was interrupted because of the First World War. After the war the club changed its name to C.F.R. Cluj, which went on to win two regional titles, in 1918-1919 and 1919-1920.

CFR Cluj is probably the only team that has a thread in 2 different forums in XT:

Great  Cluj has several former Rosenborg players (Mika Dorsin and Lars Hirschfeld for example) so I was hoping they would win the league. As long as they now keep their hands off Yssouf Kone, I wish them best of luck in the CL.
It was reported that they are gonna offer for Kone this summer.

Dorsin and Hirschfeld haven´t adapted very well though.

What exactly is Transylvania famous for? I know Dracula lived there, but what's so special about this guy?

I'm making it a theme of asking for the correct pronounciation of Romanian names. :D I would also like to take the opportunity of thanking the two kind gentleman who answered my first query. Now, as to this present occasion... in my head I have it as "Kloozsh". Not sure that makes much sense. :D

They have to keep their hands off Kone  We need the guy badly. With Iversen and Kone up front we got a decent attack for Norwegian standards, and Kone has made a large number of important goals. I hope RBK will refuse to corporate on a transfer and offer Kone the improved contract he deserves to keep him in Norway. I have nothing against Cluj, but losing 3 key players to the same club in less than a year is a bit over the edge.

But I am sure mainly Hirschfeld will make it. He is an extremely reliable goalkeeper, just give him some time and I am sure Cluj will have a lot of pleasure from him. He has never disappointed in the RBK shirt, which is one of the reasons why us RBK fans were sad to see him go (even though with Jarstein we got a very talented new nr 1)

Rosenborg was impressive in the CL, especially in the games vs Valencia. I got very surprised when CFR made offers for some of their players.
