So Dynamo will be celebrating CL draw tomorrow (12:00 CET). They'll be unseeded for the first time in club history, as they say. The possible opponents:

Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Schalke, Juventus, Rangers (or FBK Kaunas), O.Marseille, Steaua, Panathinaikos (D.Tbilisi), Basel (Göteborg), Olympiakos, Fenerbahçe (MTK), Anderlecht (BATE), Fiorentina, and Spartak M.

Another news. Correa is in rehab at Sao Paulo FC. He started to jog and is expected to return to Kiev in mid-September. As such, we can't estimate his (pitch-)return date. :(

FC Spartak Moskva and FC Dynamo Kyiv are looking forward to reviving memories of an "unforgettable derby" of yesteryear after the former Soviet giants were potentially paired together in the final qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

Successful past
Although Dynamo coach Yuri Semin would look no further than the second leg of the tie against Drogheda United FC – a contest the Ukrainian side lead 2-1 going into next week's return on home soil – the Spartak camp could barely contain their excitement. "I'm very happy with the draw," said CEO Sergei Shavlo. "We have an unforgettable derby from Soviet times." The clubs were the most successful in the old USSR, Dynamo claiming a record 13 titles to Spartak's 12, although the Muscovites can take heart from their head-to-head record: played 119, won 59, lost 39.

Huge crowd
"I am sure that this match will draw a lot of supporters," added Shavlo, whose club can expect to fill the 70,000-seat Luzhniki Stadium for the opening skirmish on 12/13 August. Dynamo's home fixture a fortnight later will fall victim to Ukraine's preparations for UEFA EURO 2012™. With their NSK Olimpiyskiy ground closed for reconstruction, the concluding leg will be played at the Valeriy Lobanovskiy Stadium, a venue with a capacity of just 18,000. "The consensus is that starting at home is a disadvantage but I don't think that this is the case this time," said Shavlo "Dynamo will come to Moscow to play attacking football, and we will not sit back and defend in Kiev either. I think we're in for a couple of uncompromising matches. The chances are 50-50."

Calm Semin
Dynamo coach Semin knows all about getting one over the red and whites having done so on numerous occasions during his time in charge of FC Lokomotiv Moskva. The Russian said: "For starters we need to beat Drogheda. Once we do that we'll be thinking of our next opponents." Club president Ihor Surkis was more forthright, saying: "We could have faced the likes of Juventus, [FC] Barcelona or Liverpool [FC] – all of whom are stronger than Spartak these days. The away game will be played on artificial turf which could be a problem for us."

Bragging rights
The sides also have previous in the UEFA Champions League. Drawn together in Group B, Dynamo came back from 2-0 down to win the home game 3-2 before going down 1-0 in Moscow. On that occasion both teams were eliminated; this time one will claim significantly more than bragging rights with a spot in the lucrative group stage awaiting the winners.

Dynamo were sooooooo close to going out. Mere inches. I don't know how that ball didn't go in once it got past Lutsenko, who is absolute garbage, along with the defense.
Spartak will walk over by Dinamo.

:wth: they almost scored a 3rd late??? :howler: Is Lutsenko the backup goalie?
The ball literally rolled parallel to the goal line from one end to the other after Lutsenko deflected it. I was surprised there was no one there to just put a foot on it or that it didn't deflect in. Dynamo got lucky. The commentator even said that "Dynamo's players must have lit candles at church and prayed."

Coach Yuri Semin has warned that FC Dynamo Kyiv have run out of dress-rehearsals and must now deliver on the unforgiving stage of a UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against FC Spartak Moskva.

Great rivals
Dynamo struggled against Drogheda United FC in the second qualifying round, surviving a late rally by the Irish champions in Wednesday's 2-2 second-leg draw following a 2-1 away win. They can expect an even tougher examination against Spartak in a match-up reviving one of Soviet football's great rivalries.

Own worst enemies
"We create problems for ourselves sometimes, like against Drogheda," said Semin. "We clearly lack consistency and concentration, but we know this and we want to fix this as soon as possible." The fact Dynamo were hanging on after conceding a late Drogheda equaliser on the night, bears out the coach's concerns. Four days before they had lost 2-1 at home to FC Metalist Kharkiv in their third Premier League outing of the season. "We need to avoid slip-ups, like the defeat by Metalist, although they did have a few breaks in that match," continued Semin, the 61-year-old former Russia and FC Lokomotiv Moskva coach.

Honeymoon over
Semin has been in the job since December 2007 and, having seen FC Shakhtar Donetsk win the Ukrainian league and cup last term, he knows the time for results is now. Dynamo need to prevail in the meeting of probably Soviet football's best two supported clubs. With the third qualifying round first leg being played in Moscow on 13 August, he sounded a positive note, saying: "Only one thing matters – qualifying for the group stage. The identity of our opponents isn't that important. The honeymoon period, if there ever was one, is over. We have work to do but we have huge potential and my goal is to get every player to achieve that potential. We want success in the Champions League as well as aiming to win the national title and the cup. I think these players are ready for it."

Bright future
Dynamo are still waiting for key midfielders Oleh Gusev, Carlos Corrêa and Ayila Yussuf to reach peak condition, yet Semin has been encouraged by the form of his bright young things. Artem Milevskiy and Olexandr Aliyev, both 23, were the goalscorers against Drogheda. The team has also featured 20-year-old Mykola Morozyuk, 18-year-old Andriy Yarmolenko and 19-year-old Artem Kravets. "I'm optimistic," the coach stated. "We are clearly making progress.
