Didn't find a specific thread to talk about Celtic so I'll just start one. Feel free to merge it of course. How are the Dutch guys doing? From what I gather, Braafheid didn't play that much and Hooiveld neither.

Hooiveld has been injured, don't think he's played at all. If he has I missed it.

Braafheid-where to begin? Is he really near the Dutch squad for the World Cup? He's been really, really bad. So bad in fact that the appalling Lee Naylor has managed to get back into the team. To be fair, Braafheid started against Motherwell on Saturday and didn't do anything wrong. But he didn't do anything right either. He's not much of a defender and doesn't seem to offer much in attack.

Some of the Celtic fans might be along to give their opinions but perhaps not. They've been silent in recent times. Now I wonder why? 24,000 crowd supposedly. Hahahahaha, more like 12-14k.

how is Fraser Forster doing? seems a massive prospect....
He had practically nothing to do when I saw him against Motherwell last month. he made some outstandins saves last week against Hamilton Accies and kept Celtic in the game. Honestly, without him Hamilton could have been 3/4 nil up, instead they had to make do with one. Celtic won comfortably in teh second half.

Alan Thompson, the Celtic assistant manager, has already been quoted as saying that they want to make the loan deal permanent.

bumping this thread because the other one with 23K posts took ages to load (probably should be closed)

anyway, apparently Celtic is interested in Estonian goalie Sergei Pareiko who is currently playing in Tomski Tom in Russian Premier League. would be great if this deal becomes a reality. he's a solid, reliable keeper and deserves a shot at higher level. Also he'd be a bargain buy.

Sergei Pareiko (born January 31, 1977 in Tallinn) is an Estonian football goalkeeper, who currently plays for FC Tom Tomsk in the Russian Premier League.

In 2009 Pareiko had a meeting with the prime minister and former president of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

We've been linked with Shay Given, probably on loan, as well. Our current number 1 Fraser Forster seems likely to head back to Newcastle in January so we'll certainly be looking to bring in a replacement of some sort.

Celtic say they are close to forming a partnership with Mexican Premier League club Santos Laguna.

Under the agreement, the clubs would hope to transfer knowledge on coaching, players, football academies and perhaps eventually swap first-team players.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said: "We have have an excellent relationship with Santos Laguna.

"And we hope to formalise this partnership early next year. Laguna is a great club, run by great people."

Celtic have already tapped into the Mexican market, signing international midfielder Efrain Juarez from Pumas de la UNAM this summer.

Torreon-based Santos, who like Celtic play in green and white hoops, formed in 1982 but have already become one of Mexico's largest clubs.

They have won their domestic championship three times, most recently in 2008, and finished runners-up to Monterrey in the championship that finished this month.

Like Celtic, Santos Laguna is much more than a football club

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell
"It is a club with a tremendous pedigree and one whose ethos is closely aligned to our own," Lawwell, who recently travelled to Mexico with other club representatives, told Celtic's website.

"Like Celtic, Santos Laguna is much more than a football club, an organisation with a very strong social and community dimension but also a very professional club with a desire for success.

"As we have already seen from our work in the USA, Japan, Korea, India and elsewhere, we have been very successful in promoting Celtic to a wider audience.

"Celtic is fortunate to have many millions of fans worldwide and already we have many new fans in Mexico.

"Clearly, this work has also assisted in the promotion of Scottish football and the Scottish Premier League and we are sure this new partnership in Mexico will again open up our game to a whole new and substantial audience."

The clubs intend to work together on areas like coaching, sports science, player development, technical analysis, the development of soccer schools and community academies for kids.

"In time, there may also be the potential transfer of first-team players through this exciting new partnership," say Celtic.

Santos president Alejandro Irarragorri added: "We will be working on specific agreements, divided into sports, business and commercial areas.

"As we look to the future, we hope to be able to share strength's between our great clubs so both parties can benefit."

Croatian media reports 19 year old NK Varazdin defender Dino Skvorc is on trial with Celtic, but Varazdin report they won't sell him easily. He also has interest from Serie A sides. There was a young Croatian defender on trial with Celtic a few years ago (Prahic) but he never was signed

jinky, how has Foster been so far?
Looks like a good shot-stopper, but is cumbersome with the ball at his feet, and for a guy at 6'7, doesn't really command his area anywhere near well enough.

He hasn't really lived up to the billing he received as a certain England Internationalist when he arrived, although maybe we should have kept our expectations low as soon as he was given that tag. :smileani:

Do you know much about him mate?

We need defenders, but i'm guessing this guy would be another one of our infamous youth projects as opposed to someone who could come straight into the first-team. Still, at least the bonus is he's Croatian.
