The downside to smartphones is that the batteries drain so fast. Even with moderate use you have to recharge it every day. Or is that just me?

Also, the speed and stability of mobile internet really isn't enough yet to make use of the full capabilities of the phone.

It seems to me like it's technology that's being released ahead of its time.

Most 4G/LTE speeds are faster than peoples internet at home. Battery is by far worst thing about smart phone but honestly, what you get out of them outweighs that negative by so much.
I have the Galaxy SIII and so happy with it, even though I have to charge it almost twice a day, cuz I rape the hell out of it.

Yes, but the benefits outweighs the battery issue. Then you can tweak the phone to last about 24 hours, then it can become your daily routine, you cam back home have dinner watch some TV,then plug it and go to sleep.

I got my wife Samsung Galaxy S3 and it is an excellent phone. I myself don't have a smartphone yet, but I have an iPod touch that is pretty much an iPhone minus the GSM, which is nice

My wife doesn't use 3G, bloody expensive, so we only rely on wifi, which is around us most of the time. But apps brought great things, like we are able now to call family for free.

And you can always have an emergency USB phone charger that comes handy during travel.

Wait, so you got your wife a phone but you yourself don't even have one yet? :dazed:

The better I get to know you, the more you start to remind me of Jewish husband. ;) :D

What app do you use for that?

Btw I'm looking to buy a new phone (my HTC Desire HD died). Any suggestions? Galaxy S3 is the best the market has to offer now I guess? Is there anything new coming out soon that beats what's available now? I'm willing to wait if that's the case, it's better to wait a few more weeks and get the latest.

We use Viber, mostly. You need Internet connection either via Wifi or 3G and Viber on the other end. For ordinary VoIP call, we use Voipgain.com, they have an app and they have super deals for ome countries, where you can call fixed (and mobile) for free.

I am aiming for the Note 2, but waiting for its price to fall down a bit :D Follow www.gsmarena.com. They have updates of the new phones, reviews, comparisons, etc.

My wife has this feature on Facebook, where whenever she takes a photo using her Samsung Galaxy SIII the photo is uploaded to FB. It wa done from Facebook, it had a popup message saying "would you like to ......." she licked yes.

Now, the sync on the phone is off, but I can't find the app/feature on FB to turn it off. Anyone know how to turn it off? It' annoying and taking lots of data (even if it's only wifi :groan:)

My I phones batteries seem to last a looong time, even with the Internet and music streaming time..

For you guys with Android, Swype had just been released on Google play. It's only a dollar and wow, it's very good so far, well worth the dollar.

Our whole family is Apple oriented, included one of my daughter's who happens to work in one of Apple's Retail Stores in Central Florida.

I got my first I Pod way before they had even thought about the phone market...by the time the 1st I Phone came out I was into my 3rd or 4th I Pod, therefore the transition was easier than eating bread.

Contemplating between a Samsung Galaxy S4, and a Nexus 4 - not big on cellphones so help me out folks.

First of all, do they both have flash? (IE, being able to stream firstrowsports, etc?) - then how are things as far as battery life, storage etc?

If you happen to know the prices for both in the US and Germany it'll be a big help, as I got friends who arrive from both so maybe it'll be cheaper that way.

The Nexus 5 is meant to be out in a month or so, if you're considering the S4, then you might as well wait for it as it's supposed to be in about the same price range and the absolute best price-quality ratio available

None from SE Asia? :D I saw tonnes of Israelis in Thailand.
The currencies have lost value there in the last 3 months so it can be up to 20% cheaper to what you get here in Holland for example.

Sadly no :D

I'd be thrilled if the Nexus 5 is out while they're still abroad before they come here, and are able to buy it for me there, take it out of the box, and skip the customs :righton:

I doubt it'll work out that way though, as I read it's due out late October? although some reports also said on the 14th so who knows.

It'll be sold here likely at the start of 2014, and the price will prolly be significantly higher so I might not wait that long - but let's see, hopefully it does come out on the 14th.. I heard the price is gonna be dirt cheap too for a new phone, around 300-350$ in the states.
