Quarterfinal in CdR. First leg is played on Santiago Bernabéu
January 13, 2011 @ 22:00

El Derbi Madrileño, a derby Atlético haven't won since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's days at the club. There have been 19 games played between these two since Atléti won on 30 October, 1999 and we've only managed to get six draws, the rest have been losses. Atlético have had 13 coaches who've failed to win a derby against Madrid, home and away. The teams have been mediocre, played over and under their capacities, there have been clowns like Daudén Ibañez who's robbed us, we have outplayed them as well as they have outplayed us..but Atlético haven't won a derby in 19 attempts.

4093 days have passed since Atlético last won a game, it happened on a cold October-night and it happened on Santiago Bernabéu. Mourinho, meanwhile, haven't lost a game at home since the 23 February, 2002. His unbeaten record is currently on 145 games, time to end it :D

Atlético got a lesson in fast, direct and effective football from Hércules, for free. They had six shots in the first half and four of them ended up going into the back of De Gea's net, we meanwhile, fired off 22 shots in the game and scored one goal. Effectivity is absolutely vital at this level and we never seem to learn anything from our past experiences, especially this season. If Aris and Espanyol weren't good enough examples, then surely Hércules is..

Forlán comes back from his injury. Quique though, seems to be repeating his misstakes. Raúl García will most likely play as a right-winger :wallbang: and we'll stick with a 4-4-2 again. Rubbish coaching if true..but I'll give him a chance until I see the starting line-up, one hour before the game starts.

¡Aupa Atléti!

Juanfran is in the squad for this game and he'll be wearing Simão's old number, #20.

De Gea, Joel; Valera, Antonio López, Filipe Luís, Godín, Domínguez, Ufo, Perea; Mario, RG, Elías, Fran Mérida, Paulo, Reyes, Juanfran, Koke; Forlán, Kun and Diego Costa.

Elías is pending, we don't know yet if he'll play considering the Brazillian officials are on vacation, so they still haven't sent the papers.

What a professional club this is, fools..

That's excellent news, especially since we're badly missing a player to play a 4-3-3. Quique simply has to drop Raúl García in the coming weeks because he's been shambolic, though I do feel a bit for the guy as he's played horribly out of position, he's not a right-winger for gods sake.

I'd definitely start Juanfran, no doubt about it, we need a proper winger as Reyes is the sole one at this point.

Juanfran is in the starting line-up while Elías stays on the bench.

lol dreadful defending.

Two Real players in acres of space one being Ronaldo.

Just give the La Liga top scorer all the space he wants.

Probably, Filipe gave it away for free in a panicky moment.

Nothing is lost, I won't lose hope. I've seen far worse situations turn around.

Had a couple of chances at 1-1 and just didn't take them.

Really poor piece of play by Kun in not squaring the ball to Forlan at 1-1 when he was completely free for a tap in. Zero awareness with head down and very selfish taking on the shot himself. Had a couple of good bustling runs during the game making Casillas work but that criminal play overshadows anything he did that was positive.

You have to be effective against Mandril, we weren't effective enough in the second.

Look, we'll turn this around with a historical win over Madrid at Vicente Calderón and advance to the next round. I'm sending them my Serbia U21 vs Sweden U21 DVD just to prove that everything is possible. Yes, Serbia were down 0-3 after the first leg in Serbia and won in Sweden with 5-0.

Better to be hopelessly positive than crying about the result, hopefully Tiago is ready for the return leg.
