·Pierluigi Casiraghi has pledged to return to professional football, despite undergoing nine operations on his dreadful knee injury.
Casiraghi ruptured his cruciate ligaments in a collision with West Ham keeper Shaka Hislop back in November 1998, and many pundits have written off his hopes of playing again.
However, Casiraghi is determined that he can get back on the road to recovery, and not be forced into premature retirement.
"I have made, and I am making, all effort in order to recover," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I have already noticed the first improvements. Contrary to what has been said and written, regularly for the last year and a half.
"I have already done some training with Chelsea, the club where I am still contracted. There have been physical problems but I view the future with optimism.
"I am 31 years old, and that allows me to hope," he added. "But, at the moment, I cannot make forecasts, neither short nor long term."
