After another disappointing save with Crvena Zvezda, where our early success was rewarded with an angry board, no increase in either reputation or attendance, and a player exodus, I'm off to manage River Plate in Argentina.

The game was set up with Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Italy, Mexico, and Spain, and with only Argentina set to Full Detail.

The pre-season started off very well, with the signings of de la Peña and Alpay off free transfers. I was also considering Rapaic and Bosnich, but decided against them because of the foreigner limit. Sorin agreed a deal with us as well, and will be joining next summer.

Our coaching staff was quite poor, but I found some very good coaching material among my scouting team. So I thinned my coaching staff and promoted one scout to assistant manager and another to coach.

In the pre-season we beat Defensores 2-0, strangely lost to Atlanta 0-3, and then beat Huracan 1-0. At the start of the season we downed Talleres 2-0, and our next match will be against Olimpo.

Line-up:

GK: Costanzo
DR: Tuzzio
DC: Alpay
DC: Ameli
DL: Rojas
MR: Coudet
MC: de la Peña
MC: Gonzalez
ML: Gallardo
FC: Cavenaghi
FC: Salas

Subs: Lux, Crosa, Virviescas, Pereyra, Cuevas, Dominguez

Lux is gone on loan, and Coudet is injured, so I'll have to make a few changes. I might try Cuevas in place of Coudet.

Vivas turned out to be better than Tuzzio, and Crosa better than Ameli, so I've made a few more changes to the line-up.

Sadly, we could only manage a 1-1 draw against Olimpo, thanks to two converted penalties.

I've made an attempt to bring back some ex-River players: the offer for Ariel Garce from Morelia was rejected, but Emelec are willing to consider the bid for Marcelo Escurdero. I've also made enquiries for Salas and Virviescas.

There is a youngster called Javier Mascherano, who my scouts recommended to me. Let me know how he does. :)

Btw, Cagliaris David Suazos contract runs out after the first season, I'm sure he'd be interested in joining River Plate when that happens.

I'm looking forward to read how it goes with you in Argentina.

Drac, as I become more familiar with the squad (since the abilities of the players in game can be different from real life) and the revision of the line-up continues, I added Mascherano to the first team. I also switched to the 4-4-2 Diamond formation, and replaced Cuevas with Gonzalez.

GK: Costanzo
DR: Vivas
DC: Alpay
DC: Crosa
DL: Rojas
DMC: Mascherano
MR: Gonzalez
ML: Gallardo
AMC: de la Peña
FC: Cavenaghi
FC: Salas

Mascherano has been lacking match practice and therefore wears out quickly, but he's been doing a good job in the two games in which I played him, and several of his attributes are impressive.

Speaking of those two games, first we beat San Lorenzo 2-0, and then we thrashed Estudiantes 5-0. In the latter game, all five goals game from Cavenaghi.

The enquiries for Salas and Virviescas were returned with asking prices, but the prices were too high for me to afford right now: 7 million for Salas and 1.3 million for Virviescas. So I asked for first options, both of which were rejected. It was probably because I placed the future asking price too low, even lower than at what the players are valued.

Ah, crud, Gonzalez was injured in the match against Estudiantes and will be missing for two months. I wonder if my training schedule is too harsh?

Thanks for the tip about Suazos, by the way. :)

We easily won both the Apertura and Copa Sudamericana, with a total record of 21-5-1, with 51 goals scored and 6 conceded.

Most of the time we used the 4-4-2 Diamond formation, but also the 4-4-2 kantspel in a few cases.

Cavenaghi scored 17 goals in 17 league matches, and a total of 21 goals in 23 matches. Gallardo, Coudet, and Gonzalez very also exceptional, but Salas lagged behind a bit, unfortunately.

Our balance has increased from about 7 million to almost 12 million, and we are currently in negotiations with Suazos.

The average attendance for all competitions was about 41,000, by the way, which is pretty nice.

Now we'll be playing a few friendlies over the Winter break, until the league action resumes with the Torneo de Clausura.

Correction: after our first friendly match against Boca, which we won 4-0, I exited the game. Since I was not prompted to save first, I thought I had done so before the friendly. Apparently not, since when I returned to the game, I was back to our match against Colon. This time we won it 3-0.

Therefore, our record is 22-4-1, with 52 goals scored and 4 conceded. Cavenaghi scored only once, and thus his league tally is 16 goals in 17 league matches, for a total of 20 goals in 23 matches.

Thanks, Drac. :)

There are a total of 20 teams in the division. The season is of course divided into two tournaments, the Apertura (Opening) and Clausura (Closing), each consisting of 19 matches. At the end of each season, the three teams with the lowest points average (determined by taking the points totals of the last three seasons in the Premier division divided by the number of matches played over the past three seasons in the Premier divisions) are relegated.

By the way, Maschanero's form has dropped off, so I've replaced him with Pereyra.

Because of the little save mishap, we missed out on signing Suazos. He had agreed terms with us the first time around, but because that occured after the match against Colon, we had to negotiate with him again the second time but then he chose Perugia over us.

Now I have to look somewhere else for a striker, since Salas is with us only on loan, and I cannot afford to buy him and there is no guarantee we can bring him in on loan again next season.

The group stages of the Copa Libertadores have started, so I've canceled the remaining friendlies. We won the first match easily 2-0 against Defensor Sporting. The next was even better, with a 3-1 win over Emelec. Then I went all out with the 4-4-2 kantspel set on Gung Ho, and we crushed The Strongest 7-2, with five goals coming from Cavenaghi. He has now scored 28 times in 26 matches. League action resumes in a few days, with our Clausura campaign starting with a match against Olimpo, and then we'll continue our demolition derby with our second match against Defensor Sporting.

As far as transfers are concerned, much of our defense is getting on in age. Rojas, Alpay, Ayala, and Vivas are 30 or older, with some being in their mid-30s already, and Ameli is about to turn 30. So, besides Sorin, we've also lined up Matei Radoi from Steaua Bucharest. In addition, we've tried to sign German from Rosario Central, and in case Costanzo leaves, Wilfred Caballero from Boca. But Central wanted too much for Leonforte, and Boca refused any bid for Caballero, but I'll have another look at Leonforte once I know how much transfer money I'll have for the new season.

We strolled past Olimpo 2-0, but then stumbled against Defensor Sporting 1-1. Then we made up for it with a nice 2-1 win against San Lorenzo, and then our reserves beat Emelec 3-1.

One thing that has been present in the CM series for quite some time now, and which I find sad that SI has not fixed yet, is the fact that the board, players, and fans of major clubs have a tendency to become upset when you aren't in first place either because the season has just started or you have a few games in hand. For example, we're in fourth in the Clausura after having won both matches, 2-0 and 2-1, but the players are becoming concerned that we're underachieving. I know it'll go away once we're on top again, but it is stupid that they cannot realize that it would have been impossible for us to be in first right from the beginning considering the goal differentials.

It was almost a tale of two seasons. We started the Clausura 3-3-0, with Cavenaghi being completely useless and the board going from Delighted to Unsatisfied. Our form improved after a while and we were soon back in first place, but our offense was still on the conservative side and Cavenaghi went through a goal drought. In the end, however, we still won the league. The Copa Libertadores was more difficult, and after we breezed through the group stages the other teams started giving us trouble. We narrowly won the competition over America de Cali. Finally, the Recopa against Boca was the easiest of all, with a nice win.
