Reports coming from Spain have linked Manchester United with a move for Valencia’s European Cup final goalkeeper Santiago Canizares.
The report claims that the 30-year-old goalkeeper has been watched closely by Ferguson as Valencia have charged through this year’s Champions League. The former Real Madrid keeper would cost in the region of £4M and take Ferguson’s spending over the £10M mark on goalkeepers in the last year.

Canizares has played against United twice in the Champion’s League this season, conceding three goals in the process. However, his shot stopping ability and comfidence in the box has brought him to the attention of the Old Trafford hierarchy.

However, Ferguson is continuing to be linked with every top goalkeeper in Europe, with Francesco Toldo of Fiorentina and Monaco's unsettled French international Fabien Barthez the leading lights in the gossip.

Mark Bosnich, who has been named in the Australian squad to face Paraguay next month, was ambivalent when he was confronted by the news.

“I am a United goalkeeper until anyone tells me different and that is yet to happen”
