The Solari signing could only have happened in Spain, because of the controversial buy-out clause which Spanish law insists on being included in every single labour contract. In footballing terms, this means that any player can leave at any moment without the consent of his club, if either he himself or another club pays the clause.

Atletico did not want to lose Solari, aged 23, and refused to negotiate with Real. So the European champions simply paid his buy-out clause of 600 million pesetas (around 3.4 million dollars), to the indignation of Atleti owner Jesus Gil, who planned to sell the Argentine to Italy for a higher price.

I didn't know that every played had such a clause in his contract.. Do you know if there is any site where the clauses for every player are on ? Or are they not all published ?
