Leandro Romagnoli (Reuters)
07/16/2002. Bundesliga side SV Werder Bremen have weighed in with an official offer for AC San Lorenzo's Argentina U-20 playmaking sensation Leandro Romagnoli ?a player who has been in their visor for many months now.

Werder are still waiting on a response to their bid ?the amount of which remains a mystery - for the 21-year-old, who has lit up the Apertura and Copa Libertadores with his outrageous skills and visionary passing.

@Sakura : He didn't find a new club yet.
In the Bundesliga no one wants him, coz' he demands too much money. And since he turned down offers from Manchester City and a turkish club ( Galatasary ??) , other european clubs didn't contact him either.
Perhaps he could go to Japan :D:D !??

Effenberg should join Newcastle United. he would do well, he is such an inspirational player...

Roy Keane and Viera do the busting up on one another when ever they meet... but effenberg will sort both of them out.

I can imagine Roy Keane and Effenberg flying in with the tackles...

Rodriguez to join German club

MONTEVIDEO (Reuters) - Uruguayan left-back Dario Rodriguez is leaving Penarol to join a German club though he does not yet know which one.
Rodriguez, who played in all of his country's matches at the World Cup and scored a brilliant long-range goal against Denmark, said he believed the club to be Schalke 04 but was still waiting for his agents to confirm the details.

'The trip could be today or tomorrow and I'm waiting for them to confirm everything, the length of the contract and the club,' he said. 'I believe that it is Schalke but they still haven't told me.'

'I think that everything, the goal, my years with Penarol and my performances in qualifying helped seal the transfer,' he added.

The 27-year-old has played 24 internationals since his debut against Hungary two years ago and has scored three goals.

He has been at Penarol since 1999 and played for Mexican club Toluca earlier in his career.

Schalke to sign Premiership duo
By Dominic Raynor

Injury hit Schalke 04 are set to sign Norwegian duo Ronny Johnsen and Oyvind Leonhardsen after having only 13 fit players available for their Bundesliga opener against Wolfsburg.

Leonhardsen: German move
(MikeHewitt/Allsport)
Former Manchester United defender Johnson and out-of-favour Tottenham midfielder Leonhardsen have both passed medicals in Gelsenkirchen and will have a one-week trial with a view to a permanent signing.

Schalke manager Andreas Mueller said: 'The ability of the two players is proven, but coach Frank Neubarth wants to see what condition they are in and if they can help us.'

Both players have had their fair share of injury problems. UEFA Champions League winner Johnsen underwent surgery on a troublesome knee last season, while Leonhardsen suffered a pre-season injury and played only 13 games for Spurs last term.

He has had difficulty breaking into the first team under new manger Glenn Hoddle and is very keen on a move to Germany.

'It would be great if something comes of this deal. After all I have no future in Tottenham,' Leonhardsen told Dagbladet.

'I don't know how much Tottenham will demand, speculation is hopeless. The only thing I know is I want this to go through.'

Leonhardsen's contract expires in 2003 and any previously interested clubs have been put of a deal by Tottenham's undisclosed asking price for the 31-year-old.

Johnsen,33, failed to land a contract extension with United this summer and is available on a free transfer.

Both players are Norway internationals and played during the qualification stages for World Cup Korea/Japan 2002.

Wolfsburg Keen To Sign Romagnoli
Latest News | News Archive

Wolfsburg target Leandro Romagnoli (r) (AP)
08/14/2002. Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg are reportedly keen on luring silky-skilled AC San Lorenzo playmker Leandro Romagnoli to the VfL-Stadion.

Reports in the German media suggest that Wolfsburg have turned their attention towards the Argentinean midfield maestro after Swiss star Ciriaco Sforza snubbed them in favor of a return to 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

A daunting obstacle that stands between the Wolves and the €4m rated 21-year-old is the fact that San Lorenzo are not in a position to formally conduct any transfer dealings due to their ongoing bankruptcy investigation.

In other news relating to Wolfsburg, the ambitious club are reported to be preparing an offer for another Argentine, namely Estudiantes de la Plata defender Pablo Javier Quatrocchi, who is on the market for just over €1m.

Effenberg Signs For Wolfsburg
Latest News | News Archive

New start for Stefan (Allsport)
08/16/2002. German midfielder Stefan Effenberg has surprisingly signed for Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg this afternoon - just hours after he turned down a move to Austria Vienna.

The 34-year-old was released by Bayern Munich at the end of last season and had contemplated retirement after failing to agree terms with a number of clubs.

However, he has now signed a one-year contract with 'Wolves' and could be in the team to play against one of this former clubs Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday.

Effenberg Officially Presented By Wolfsburg
Latest News | News Archive

Looking forward to his new mission (Reuters)
08/19/2002. Former Bayern Munich midfielder Stefan Effenberg commented on his surprise decision to join VfL Wolfsburg during a jam-packed press conference held on Monday to officially mark his arrival at the relatively unfashionable Bundesliga club.

"I am absolutely sure that there is the potential for great things to happen here. Fifth or sixth place is well within our reach," said a relaxed looking Effenberg. "I am burning to begin my new mission."

VfL coach Wolfgang Wolf was smiling from ear-to-ear during the entire thirty minutes of the presentation and stopped just short of confirming that the 34-year-old would be starting his first game for the Wolves away to Arminia Bielefeld next Saturday. "Stefan is in top-shape and the fact that he wasn't brought here to warm the bench is no secret."

Effenberg snubbed interest from Austria Vienna to join Wolfsburg on a free transfer last Friday. His salary for the one-year he has committed to the Wolves is reported to be in the neighbourhood of 2m Euro.
