Marc Wilmots opened the scoring but Larsson converted a penalty a minute before half-time to send the sides into the break on level terms.
Larsson then turned provider for speedy striker Mark Burchill to make it 2-1 to the home side in the 53rd minute. However, despite being reduced to ten men after Laurent Battles was given his marching orders for a nasty clash with Eyal Berkovic on the hour, Bordeaux scored three times without reply to win the game.
The sending off galvanised Bordeaux and they quickly took a 3-2 lead after strikes from Lilian Laslandes and Pascale Feinduono before Jerome Bonnissel completed the scoring and gave O'Neill plenty of food for thought - the lack of concentration and discipline his side showed topping his list, no doubt.
