Bojinov close to his comeback
Sunday 17 April, 2005
Valeri Bojinov hopes to restart his troubled Viola career on Wednesday night, while his teammates prepare for the local derby at Livorno.

“I will have my final consultation with the specialist on Monday to decide whether I can play against Messina on Wednesday,” he told a local newspaper. “I feel much better and even shook off some of the tiredness I was carrying from my time at Lecce.”

Since joining from Lecce in a shock £13m January move, there has been nothing but trouble for the teenage hitman.

He was sent off for lashing out at an opponent against Sampdoria, then suffered a serious thigh strain whilst scoring his first goal for the club.

“Fiorentina have made sure I was never lonely during this difficult time. The medical staff, Dino Zoff and my teammates gave me a helping hand. I haven’t had a chance to repay the club for what they’ve done and I want to prove I’m just as good as the striker they saw at Lecce.”

Despite being ruled out for over two months, Bojinov remains one of Serie A’s top scorers this season with 12 goals.

“My childhood idol was Hristo Stoichkov,” revealed the young Bulgarian. “Now my favourites are Andriy Shevchenko, Adriano, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Milan Baros and Gabriel Batistuta. Bati really was a great striker.”

Meanwhile, Fiorentina travel to Livorno for the high-profile local derby and a crucial encounter for the relegation battle.

“From now on I want to see the same heart and determination that we saw against Juventus,” said Coach Zoff of their 3-3 draw. “This team needs pride and to fight for a result with everything it has, not just with superior technique.”

Livorno have received clearance to field their Brazilian signing Paulo Sergio Betanin – known as Paulinho.

I don't think Bojinov's comeback will make any difference. Our failed season is mainly caused by two factors:

1. We didn't buy any decent striker in the summer, and therefore we couldn't score. Portillo, Fantini and Riganò were all dissapointing and it was a major miscalculation by the management.

2. We didn't buy any decent defenders during the winter break. ADV spent all our money on Bojinov. Totally mindblowing decision and it will probably cost us a place in Serie A.

Plus, we haven't had a decent coach during the whole season, our keepers stink and there's no team spirit.

1. Whoah, we had Portillo this season? Feels like forever ago.

Someone find Zoff's quote: "We don't need new defenders" or someting when January transfer window closed.

Hopefully Bojinov can fire us to some hope just through sheer determination and goals. What a mess this has been, im sure it would be a different story if he didnt get injured.
