Taggart is deluded......

Excellent article you may be interested in: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/hi/english/football/champions_league/newsid_1961000/1961503.stm

Text as below:-

" Sir Alex Ferguson has pulled the full range of brave faces after Manchester United's Champions League disappointments - but he wore the full mask of self-delusion in Leverkusen.

Ferguson reacted to the deserved loss against Bayer Leverkusen by clutching desperately at straws and failing to grasp reality.

Manchester United, he claimed, were still as good as any of the European elite.

Nonsense.

Manchester United, he claimed, had been the best team in the Premiership since Christmas.

Nonsense - unless we have all been very much mistaken and it has been a team other than Arsenal who have put together a stunning sequence of form to stand on the brink of a league and cup double.

And, it has to be said, the biggest nonsense of all was Ferguson's tactical masterplan in Leverkusen.

Ferguson has presided over magnificent success and leads a group of players that can stand comparison with many of the European elite, but they were a mess in their ill-fated Champions League defeat in Germany.

Fortune favours the brave - but it can also desert the foolhardy and Ferguson got his game plan horribly wrong.

The gods can only smile on Ferguson for so long. Remember how he got away with puzzlingly playing Jesper Blomqvist in the 1999 Champions League win against Bayern Munich?

Ferguson, on a night when he needed goals, detailed a natural midfield marksman in Paul Scholes to tramp uneffectively down the right side of midfield.

He isolated Ruud van Nistelrooy and left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the bench, only introducing the Norwegian talisman when it was too late for him to produce another miracle.

Scholes and Blanc fail to hide their disappointment

And, once again, Ferguson's whole set-up appeared tailored to allow Juan Sebastian Veron to fill a mystifying role behind Van Nistelrooy.

The consequence was that Van Nistelrooy was barely given a pass worthy of the name and Scholes saw his effectiveness reduced to almost nil.

Manchester United's best set-up is a pure and simple 4-4-2 - and the brilliant Scholes was reduced to a figure of burning frustration on the periphery of the action.

They ended the game in a desperate shambles, with Veron almost filling in as an auxiliary central defender.

Veron has been the dilemma at the centre of United's season, and Ferguson has spent so much time putting his most expensive item at the front of the display that he has forgotten things were falling apart at the back of the showcase.

Laurent Blanc was careless and fortunate to get away with a series of sloppy errors, while Wes Brown's distribution was abysmal.

If there is a man waiting to replace Gary Neville in England's right back slot, it is certainly not Wes Brown.

Veron has been a United misfit

United's defence is one of their weaknesses, as proved by the fact that they led three times against Bayer in two legs and never retained it.

And their problems were made even worse with the manager's unnecessary tinkering with midfield and attack.

Sir Alex Ferguson has rightly claimed glorious credit for Manchester United's successes - he must now take a share of the blame for another disappointing fall near the Champions League finishing tape. "

I believe that we can all say " AMEN" to that can't we ? :D:D

What a crock of bollocks that article was......

Fergie played the right line-up last night, exactly the one I and most United fans would've chosen....

The players didn't show enough heart and that's why we lost....case closed

This arsey reporter seems to forget that the "natural 4-4-2 formation" only got us to the quarters for the last 2 years and that the "daft 4-4-1-1 formation" won us both games vs Deportivo as well as games against Chelsea and Leeds......

4-4-1-1 is the way to go. Next year we'll come back stronger, more determined and with a better defence and you'll understand what a twat you are.

Now every single one of us loves Alex Ferguson, loves Alex Ferguson, loves Alex Ferguson....

Dun have to be so defensive, mates. Remember the good relationship between the Liverpool and Man U forum, so it is expected to see some Liverpool fans here sharing the sorrows of defeat with you. After all, we were also knocked out by Bayer.:)

It was the result I expected though. I saw the first leg as the crucial one which Man U fail to get a grip on and duly paid the price for. Makes you wonder if this is indeed the year for Real Madrid to win. Perhaps it is destiny. Just like 1999.:)

i agree with one part of the article, when it says the 4-4-2 is the best formation...i get so pissed off with that bullsh!t 4-5-1,...the midfield is too cramped, and scholes and veron never know their exact positions and start shifiting from place to place...personally, i think the 4-5-1 is adopted by Fetguson just to make use of that £28,000,000 lemon.... my opinion, ALWAYS stick with the 4-4-2, and dont play veron when scholes is on the pitch.

You girls a bit touchy aren' t you ?

Merge to your heart's content Mr 'Big Man of Xtratime'.......wow! I AM impressed .... :eekani:

Trouble with you Mancs on here is that you can't accept a rival fan giving yous a bit of stick. Anything remotely anti-Manure and the shutters go up to protect your cosy little incestuous existence on here.

Don't tell me - you're gonna threaten to ban me again now eh ? *quivering in my boots>*

Ever heard of the concept of freedom of speech in your blinkered little world of Ryan Giggs' duvet covers and post-1990 soccer knowledge ? No, didn't think so....

Fred Elliot: ManUtd fan in New Zealand :D:D It all fits so nicely..... :D Baaaaaa .

I hate to say it but I have to agree with much of what is said in that article.

United are infinitely more effective as a 4-4-2. RVN and OGSolskjaer have been irresistable together and it is difficult to say that Bayer would have been able to cope.

- Do you not see that ManU could barely get out of their own half because RVN was left on his own for the whole game?
Fair enough, many players played badly but it is easy to see the reaons why they were doing so. They were trying to play Bayer at their own game - which to me is plain ludicrous.

This was clear after the first ten minutes. United were listless, nobody knew what they were doing and changes should have been made straight away. Instead, Ferguson chose to persist with a silly system that was playing right into Bayer's hands.

unlike you, part timer, I'm here for the duration whether we win or not. Thats what being a true fan is about. Guys like you make me laugh, as you conveniantly went missing the last few weeks when your season turned to bollocks. Hmm, strange that. You seem to forget that the scousers won nothing, never looked like winning anything, and will continue to be under achievers whilst playing the brand of football they persist with. 12 years and counting eh;)

Fine with me though. Maybe you can feel more of an affinity with the plastik scousers from Bayer LIVER-kusen. Get a bit of communal singing going, all stand to attention and belt out a rendition of that old favourite 'you'll never march alone';) :howler:

I think this lot better realise something fast. See I have known FW for at least since I started on the Message boards on ITV which was about a year ago and one thing I have found with him is that if you argue or say anything to him he can either get sarcastic or say something funny. You wont win in an argument with him I have tried that endless times ;) and he goes by his name he always has the Final Word!!

Trust me Freddy Elliot leave well alone!!

PS Tell Maxine that Ashley Peacock or whatever his name his that he speaks like a little gimp and that he cant act to save his life.

Flippin' hell Fred!! GOOD REPLY!!!!

Well, you've got me now haven't you ? I just can't compete with your superior intellect, backed up by your 'little-big-man' cheerleader (K2) in the background....does he always hold your coat, or does he ever get his hands dirty himself ? :D

For your information, I never go into hiding. Fact of the matter is, I go on at least two other footie sites, (none of which have such uptight and menstrual Mancs as on here), and so I spend my time wherever I feel like being.

I can take taunts that Liverpool are, "boring", "trophyless" or whatever you like to throw at us. I acknowledge that we got what we deserved at Spurs, i.e. nothing. See, unlike you lot I can accept criticism. I can deal with it without resorting to personal insults. I don't need to remove my thread title to 'hide' it in another one to spare and minimise embarrassment and ridicule from those nasty ManU haters....... ah diddums.

Thing is, we're improving in the league (more points already than last season), it was our first outing in the CL, and we did much better than Arsenal or ManUre did in their first seasons, qualifying from a difficult group ( unlike ManUre).

Secondly, we didn't waste £28m on a waste of skin Ali G lookalike , who after one season wants out of the ManUre slumhole....

We had our manager absent for nearly 6 months of the season and still competed......

We actually HAVE a defence worthy of the name, unlike Le Slug, Fabulous Blunders, Wes 'OG' Brown, & the Chuckle Brothers.

Your boys were firmly kept in our top pockets after our 5th (FIFTH) straight win over your sorry lot.

P.S. Fred & sidekick: How many times have you 'REAL GENUINE' (yeah right!!) ManU fans ever been to the Theatre of Wet Dreams ?

Fred: Why don't you just stick to your national pastime of sheep shagging ? :D :ass:
