Well i dont really eat to much before a match, if i do its usually a bannana, grapes or something like that. Something that will not take you out of the match.

You mean on matchday?
Well eat a meal well before the game like pasta, rice etc and light things like sandwiches/breads a few hours before the game.

Obviously keep yourself hydrated and drink liquids.

Don't eat too much and give a meal a few hours before a game.

you will need to find your personal preference. Pasta/rice with meat is a good pre game meal. Try to avoid any restaurant foods as they are high in fat and will slow you down for several hours.

You need something high in carbs for sure 4-2 hours before the match. small snack before the match is OK too. Some people can not tollerate a meal in their stomach during heavy exercise however.

For me, a steak (7 oz.) and about 1- 1.5 cups of rice about 2- 2.5 hours before the game

beef and rice are slow burners- perfect for running around for 90 minutes

If at half-time I'm low on energy, I'll have 2 scoops of Ultra-Fuel (made by Twinlabs) for extra energy

Steak really? I usually have somthing like that after the game. For me before a game it is a bannana w/ Peanut butter and an energy bar and water. Then carbs inbetween games, ers and Peanut Butter work well for that

Steak is protein.... tbh it should be used after match more than before to restore natural levels of protein so you sustain muscle.

Carbs 3 hours before will do nice.

Yes....I said that when I said "Steak....that is better for after a game"
Carbs....Carbs...Carbs...and Protien to a smaller extent are what you need before a match, plus a lot of water

Do eat before the game, but do it well before so that you have sufficient time to digest and go to the bathroom. Playing while feeling like you are going to shit in your pants is no fun. Trust me.

Errrr quick right before kick off is pop-tarts. Very high in Carbohydrates, Marathon runners and very long distance runners I've talked with say it's a good thing right before strenuous running excercise.

About 2 hours before a game the best dish is pasta with some meat in it. My favourite is fettucini alfredo with chicken. You get that amount of protein, but you're also getting the tons of carbs you need.

No, to much protein before the game will cause your body to burn your protein/ musckle sources rather than your natural carb/fat stores of energy.

A little bit is fine, but to much is definately not the best for your body.

Definitely no big meal and don't eat a couple of hours before playing. Hunger isn't good an intense work out but it's better than a full stomach IMO.

I just studied the game and players and did some reasearch in nutrition when I thought I had a chance of making a living as a coach.

I know that won't happen now but I will coach kids part-time sometime in the future.
Still the same satisfaction but more respect

pasta and carbs like others said. usually in a soup base. im not italian so i wouldn't know the differnce. just make the pasta roll or whatever tender and like the soup. put some meat in and eat. based on ur body type u know what u need to eat. i'm a speedier, tall, and skinnier so i can't eat too much or else i can't run, therefore dont' eat too much :D i can eat about 1.5 hours before kickoff. ample serving is good nothing too much. if u want a full stomache eat well before KO. take a crap before KO (a given). i gennerally try to stay away from beef, more chicken or lighter meats. to cap it off, i generally will keep a banana with me before KO or just eat it right after my meal. i'd stay away from dairy products as they go down wierd and leave aftertaste.

day before drink lots of water and piss lots.

This is an interesting thread. I´ve been thinking about this for a while, and now when you step up your work outs , your really want to get something out of it. I myself have had troubles with this, pasta etc is very strange for me, it does make me feel slow, and sometimes i´ll start to get cold sweats and feeling dizzy and just feeling bad all together. Then it will pass after a few minutes, but it is no pleasant. Maybe carbs like pasta etc should be consumed days before the game, then on match day you will be loaded with carbs, and have the margin to eat something lighter like some meat ( chicken, turkey ) , thats what my body responds well to and break down easily. And you will feel light. Best experience i had was doing this, and i didnt have nothing to eat before the game but loads of water, and i felt great, light and very concentrated etc.

Hope i have been some help. If you try this, please give me some feedback on it. Maybe im on to something. :D
