Usually the star of the team, might even contain deep lying playmakers or players who sometimes handle the holding role.

My picks are:

1. Zidane

2. Ballack

3. Ronaldinho

4. Kaka

5. Riquelme

6. Guti

7. Xavi

8. Deco

9. Gerrard

10.Scholes

11. Pirlo

12. Seedorf

13. Mehmet Scholl

14. Rui Costa

&

15. Rivaldo

Some players there!

Guti and Mehmet Scholl are weird choices to say the least...

And if you include Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Kaka in this, you might as well choose Totti too who is positionally identical to them.

Because I assume you left out Totti because you consider him a forward, not because you forgot a player who is has been better then pretty all up there, except Zizou and Ronaldinho.

This is a random list, so no. 6 does not mean much, I think he deserves to be in the top 15.

Also, forgot to add Karel Poborsky.

1. Zidane

This is a race for 2nd place.

Rui Costa, Veron, Totti, Valeron, Mendieta, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Nedved

Rivaldo was more late 90's IMO.

I think this position has changed now a days. You don't really have AM's like the ones in the list, but rather CM's who control the game with less flair.

Indeed. Its like this IMO.

1.Zizou.
2. Ronaldinho (arguably nr 1 too though)
3. Totti.
4. Kaka.

The rest dont matter as much. And because this is for the 2000's, and someone like Rivaldo declined bit too soon IMO and tainted his rep. And Ruis Costa is a genius, but he was more or less a flop in Milan.

Totti for longetivity, brilliance etc etc, pretty easy

He was a top 10 player for most of the 00s and for a couple of seasons arguably the best.

3. Totti
4. Kaka

then I can't make up my mind... Valeron, Ballack, Guti, Deco and so on among my candidates anyways..

Would be Rivaldo, but he played a lot of his best in the 90s.

So it's obviously Zidane with Ronaldinho second.

1. Ronaldinho simply because he owned more of the 2000s compared to Zidane
2. Zidane, obviously

In 2010 he would have already won three Scudettos, two Champions Leagues, one UEFA Cup and another two Golden Balls

Mendieta were too much of late 90's and of course those 2 years when Valencia got into 2 CL-finals otherwise, nah, I don't think he's one of the best.
Zizou and Ronaldinho for me
