I've done some google searching and haven't found an answer that made sense. What happened to Benfica B? It sounds like it was eliminated in a reorganization. Was this league wide?

Yea, back in 2006 they decided to get rid of it. I guess they just want to stick with juniors. I don't think it was league wide, because I know Maritimo still has a B team playing in the 3rd division.

It's very much possible that the "B" teams of most of the top clubs of our football will return next season as apparently they have agreed in creating a sort of "reserves league" similar to the one that exists now in the North (Liga Intercalar). I am not sure how good this idea is when compared to the current alternative of loaning out players to gain experience.
