I think it was Bob Crampsey who said that the semi final win against Bayern Munich is the best ever result by a Scottish team in Europe....and who can argue with Bob Crampsey, he knows everything!

They went on to win the next 3 European Cups and the backbone of their team was also the backbone of the German team that won the world cup in 1974.


btw I think the Sporting match went to penalties before the ref realised that Rangers had won on away goals

there's a display at the Ajax museum with some stuff from that game, some pictures, couple of programmes and tickets (it was the first super cup game and was originally planned as a friendly between Ajax and Rangers before UEFA thought it was a good idea and sanctioned it as a competition)

Although in saying that it's a pretty worthless competition and played more like a friendly these days
