Premise: I hate those lists. I understand the ones whose job is (also) producing those meaningless lists: they are forced to produce them no matter wether those lists do not make any sense.
The problems are mostly two and are obviously insurmountable.
1- players from different eras can't be compared for obvious tactical reasons first of all, but also technical and physical, for reasons which are linked to training, nutrition, lifestyle etc. etc.
2- strictly talking about building a lineup which makes sense: a lineup with Maradona, Messi, Pelé, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldo il Fenomeno might have the all time 5 best players (depending on the opinion of the people of course) but would lose to a team with less champions which includes the hard-working players the champions need.
