It looks like some kinda ofiicial information...

That means Baiocco will join in June.
O'Neill will go the other way + we spend 5m Euro (4.5 m$) !

Confirmation of that deal later on this afternoon !

Calciomercato is reliable 1% of the time !
Hope we're not in the 99%this time... :D ;)

Amo, didn't you see the "L'ufficialita' dell'operazione dovrebbe arrivare gia' nel pomeriggio." part...

Yes and this means "the officialisation of the operation should arrive this afternoon".

In calciomercato terms this should be understood as "perhaps Juventus has made a bid and Gaucci might think about it this afternoon". :)

I'm not saying it couldnt be true, but its calciomercato. ;)

Your last line is exactly why I disapprove of this rumoured move Stephanho :).
I don't put more stock in this than AMO or you (and I'm looking forward to seing xtc disagree with me here, as I know he's a fan ;)), but in my opinion this doesn't REALLY help us.

Sure- Baiocco is a good player; he is actually a great squadplayer to have, and surely more beneficial than having a permanent injury sitting on the bench.

That said- where does this leave Maresca/Brighi ? In my estimation- Baiocco is sort of a mix between these too. An allround player who could perform in most of the functions of our current midfield. However- he is not a spectacular player; his experience and alledged price (O'Neill cost us app.10 million$) makes him "bigger" than Brighi and Maresca, and in many ways I think this is the same kind of depth signing as we've talked about so many times before. We would be buying a good player, who will not be able to make a difference over the guys we have already. I'd surely rather bring Brighi back and actually PLAY him (even if Baiocco operates more to the left side than Brighi does). I see Baiocco primarily as an alternative to where Davids has played these two seasons- on the left side of central midfield- battle and some offence in front of Tacchinardi. The horror scenario is that Davids is actually on the way out- and baiocco is a replacement for him..... like it was rumoured before the final verdict on Davids nandrolon case in the Summer. Even now (last Sunday) we played ZAmbrotta there instead of Davids- even if Lippi said this was "just" squadrotation...

Ciao.

I really can't imagine him being Davids's departure "consolation"...

Once again I don't know Brighi that wellbut according to many comments including yours it would be a clever move to bring him back instead of buying...

I think Juventus could really use Baiocco. He is a VERY good player, and with Conte expected to have an much more limited role next season, O'Neill also leaving (apparently in the deal) and the management having absolutely no faith in Maresca, Baiocco could come to good use. Maresca's future in Juve is insecure to say the least.

Plus, there is also the scenario of Zambrotta being a player Juventus is willing to give as exchange in any possible "big deal" in the summer, be that Nesta, Crespo or whoever.

BUT, lets assume that Zambrotta stays, Davids stays as well.

Juventus midfield would looks like that:

_______Tacchinardi

Zambrotta_______Davids

________Nedved

Brighi will fight it off with Zambrotta for the right midfield spot. So that leaves Conte to cover for Tacchinardi and Davids? That is clearly not enough, let alone that in case Maresca leaves there will be no back up for Tacchinardi. Baiocco seems an ideal signing as cover for both Davids and Tacchinardi.

On the other hand, there is also a rumor about a certain Doni but I think this could happen only in case Zambrotta leaves.

I don't rate the guy personally. A 2nd rate midfielder if you ask me. And once again a player Juve hardly needs.

He's not our #1 aim - I think we all agree about this... :)

Still I feel Amo has a point here. Tough I don't thinkwe're gonna sell Maresca (well I hope so) or Zambrotta either I have nothing against his venue in Turin.

Everybody will agree he's a good player, maybe he couldn't make the difference, but still I have nothing against the idea of having 1 more good player in our squad... Afterall O'Neill is useless, it's 5m Euro and severe injuries could occur to any of our players anyday...

All this to say Baiocco is a valuable addition to our squad. Maybe not a regular but we need backups of his quality...
This is not the kind of deal that will make me Jump Around but I wouldn't sneez at it. :D

I'll put O'Neill in my "Most Dissapointing list ever" alongside Henry, Athirson and Esnaider...

Believe it or not I was rather happy when Juve bought him.

DEAL DONE !!!!!

Official: Baiocco To Juve, O'Neill To Perugia

Davide Baiocco will join Juventus next season (Allsport)
01/22/2002. Today Perugia and Juventus finally completed a deal that was already supposed to be made last summer. Midfielder Davide Baiocco will join the bianconeri at the end of the season, while the grifoni obtained $ 5,1 million plus half of Uruguayan playmaker Fabian O'Neill, who has already joined his new team-mates and could make his debut with Perugia next Sunday.

"O'Neill is a player I always liked" Perugia coach Serse Cosmi said today, "I expect him to do what Liverani did before joining Lazio. He can give us a big contribution of class and experience. He will be the leader of our midfield".

Talking about Baiocco, Cosmi added: "I'm very happy for him. From now until the end of the championship I expect him to act like Materazzi did last season, that's to say to give his best despite already knowing that he will join a Serie A giant at the end of the season".

HA! Fan of what?

Nah, today I'm agreeing with everybody :)

Actually, I'm already not sure whether we need to buy Baioco. After seeing nice words regarding Brighi and finally managed to see Maresca in action vs. Atalanta and I'm very pleased with him, I think that we can easily use them instead of Baioco. Sure, neither Brighi nor Maresca cover the zone like Edgar, but I don't find it a big problem since I see Maresca and Brighi as improved versions of Capitano Conte.
But now I'm not sure whether we need Davids. I'm hardly seeing him to make the difference when he is a starter, even if he scored 2 goals during the last month. The guy seems to have lost his mind and now acting like a "woo-hoo" (ie. a man who needs a professional help from some people with white clothes, thank you).

Bye Bye.

this is great news, i'm very happy that we got him, another italian star in teh making. he is young as well.

juve has great future midfielders in Maresca, Brighi and now Baicco.

five years from now:

Brighi Maresca Baiocco Zambrotta

looks great for both juve and italy :D

i think that juve should use these younger players as well. THerefore, Conte should maybe exit juve as well sometime soon.

we have:
Davids
Nedved
Tacchinardi
Zambro
Maresca
Brighi
Baiocco

that is plenty of midfielders!

one more thing, is Baiocco like an attacking midfielder???
