Thank God Diniev is leaving but who will replace him?Who would do you think have a realistical chance?

Two domestic coaches that have a good chance and that i would like to see are Agasalim Mirjavadov and Asker Abdullayev.

I would prefer Agasalim, he wins everywhere he goes and is most succesfull coach in European competition with our clubs. He also knows all the players in Azerbaijan since he coached them at one time or another.

I said that before and I'll say it again - we need a foreign disciplinarian who will have a zero tolerance for BS and will instill a tough will.

Ideal candidate would be someone of the caliber of Klaus Topmoller whose side (Georgia) beat Scotland 2:0 at home!

Way to go, Georgians!

I totally agree with Quidam - we have had too much of our local coaches, and even Mirjavadov's and Abdullayev's qualifications are not enough in order to create a strong team. I would like to see a German coach (no Brazilians, Italians, Spaniards, Latin Americans). Only a German coach is able to change to whole mentality of our players and do a gigantic work to improve country's football affairs. As far as names are concerned, of course getting a very exprienced and well-known coach from Germany is extremely expensive. However, it is possible to invite a quite young and talented coach, who would have much energy and desire to work for the good of Azeri football. As candidate #1 I see Michael Skibbe, who currently coaches Bayer Leverkuzen and despite his quite young age, he has achieved many things, in particular in the areas of working with talented and promising players. Exactly what we now need.
Another option, which would be easier for everyone, taking into account the usual communication problems with the arrival of a foreign coach, it would be a nice idea to invite somebody from former Soviet Union. Many excellent coaches do not work, however, they could contribute perfectly to our national team. Moreover, in comparison to any other foreigner, a Russian (Soviet) coach will not have any problems with understanding our player's mentality. There are many names which would be appropriate for our national team, for instance Vitali Shevchenko (ex Neftchi player, by the way - one more positive point) or Gadzhi Gadzhiev. Both did a great job training FC Torpedo Moskva and Krylya Sovetov, respectively. And both would be able to create an "iron discipline" in our football.
Therefore, our federation should seriously consider these two options, if they are really interested in the future of our football. Either a German coach, or a Russian. NO coaches from Azerbaijan and NO coaches from any Southern country.

What about former Turkish NT coach Ersun Yanal? I think he did a marvelous job taking small Genclerbirliyi to the quarter-final of the UEFA cup in 2004 and from what I've seen he's the kind that insists on tough football discipline and given that he's young, energetic and he knows the culture I think he will suite very well for the position.

And currently he's available I think.

Another specialist who is free now is Mourinho, but I’m afraid that would be a bit too much :howler:

Dutch and German coaches are best and they have high skills to improve our players which is right now most important thing..Ersun Yanal I don't think would be too risky..Agaselim is not bad but still not the person we need..I am not sure which German and Dutch coaches are available

I don’t really agree that German or foreign coaches will really change much in our team. First of all, it will be harder getting a GOOD foreign coach because we saw what happened to Torres and lets face it who would really want to coach us? Unless we overpay $$$. Second, our players don’t have a lot of professionalism that’s why there will be some much internal conflict like with Torres and foreigners wont understand our Azeri mentality. If this was a club then it would be different, but the national team is a different matter.
Finally, I still believe Agasalim needs a chance to coach our national team. He has great discipline and a good motivator, and he also knows all the national team players, you cant forget that he’s the only coach in Azerbaijan that coached in the Soviet period now days. He’s got all the credentials need to be a good match for the coach position plus he’s Azeri so there’s no problem with communication and he wont need time to get used to the team and the country, etc.

I would choose a coach by three criteria:
1. He should be a man who knows how to choose the best from the worst.
2. He knows how to motivate and inspire players.
3. He should be foreigner

I would exaplain the third criterion: I WANT HIM TO BE OBJECTIVE. I am pretty sure that most of our coach, as most of our citizens, know very well what is "tapsh" and other negative aspects of our life. I want our coach to chose players merely on professional bases, and I'm convinced that we need a foreigner for that purpose.

Azerkid,Torres never was a coach until he took us..Look at dutch coaches one in Russia, other ones in Poland and etc...Our coaches can't compete with their high technique

Guys, simple fact - look at our competitors in the face of Kazakhstan and Armenia.

There is no freaking way these two teams are better than us in terms of talent and skill, but they had a one very slight but very important advantage:

Head coach of Kazakhstan is Dutch Arno Pijpers and head coach of Armenia was Scot Ian Porterfield. Needless to say that while these two probably weren't the best coaches in the world but they still beat Shahin Diniyev by a mile.

and to be honest, I strongly object the idea of inviting a domestic coach. We've been through that already. Most of our coaches are the product of the old soviet system, and that system never produced anything of a quality in terms of coaching. The only notable name in Soviet system was Valery Lobanovsky and that's it. Plus it was back in 70s-80s and we are talking about today.

Yeah, but I also think those two aren't better coaches than Agasalim Mirjavadov. For example, look at Latvia in Euro 04, they had a Latvian coach Starkovs or Turkey in WC 02 they had a Turkish coach Gunes. Plus the foreigners are gonna come here for a 6 month contract worth 1million, maybe get us a few draws and then bounce.

We couldnt afford any of those coaches, and they would never take the job unless we offer what Abramovic pays Hiddink I think $1 mil a month salary. The type of Dutch coach we can afford would be a Arno Pijpers or Henk Wisman (who couldnt do anything with Armenia)who arent better than Agasalim and the best they can do is have us play like Kazakhstan.

I think Hiddink makes 2 million Euros annually. Not much if you ask me. Georgians pay Topmoller 2 million dollars too.

I have an idea - we have to cut players salaries and pay for foreign coach from their pockets! They make too much money anyway

did you read an article on Azerisport before the Portugal game? According to portugese journalists when they've heard how much our players make they concluded that it's as much as salaries at top Portugese clubs like Sporting Lisbon.

Hiddink gets his official salary from the National Academy of Soccer sponsored by Roman Abramovich. The Dutchman earns 2 million euro (USD 2.78 million) for a month.

You're right. It's a known fact that Soviet style coaches suck for the most part and the players never give it their all for them.

The only post-Soviet coach who I think has a great potential is Oleg Blokhin - he's young, he's energetic and even despite the fact that Ukraine failed to qualify to the EC2008 he's still successful (the fact that he took Ukraine to its first ever World Cup tells a lot)
