Fabio Aurelio's agent has confirmed to skysports.com that Liverpool are in talks to complete the signing of the Brazilian full back.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at La Mestalla this summer and Valencia have, thus far, failed to persuade him to sign a new deal.

"In this moment, we have presented an offer to player and, until now, we have not had a response," said Valencia's sporting director Javier Subirats.

Liverpool have taken advantage of Aurelio's Bosman status and opened talks, and a deal now looks imminent.

Speaking exclusively to skysports.com, agent Juan Rigger has revealed talks are ongoing - but denied a deal was already in place, as some Spanish sources suggested on Tuesday.

"The contacts are open with Liverpool and things are going well, but still the operation is not closed," confirmed Rigger.

Aurelio added that his future is in the hands of his representative, saying: "This subject is with my agent, he knows everything."

Aurelio's capture would be a major coup for Liverpool and would bolster their left sided-options - with the South American able to play comfortably in defence and midfield.

Rafa Benitez knows Aurelio well from his time at Valencia and obviously feels that he is a player who can add some extra quality to his squad.

hell of a signing. means substandard players like traore and warnock will be shown the door.

I'd keep hold of one of Traore or Warnock, because Aurelio is injury prone, maybe that hopefully changes but no use taking a risk, plus i think Traore and Warnock are not on premium wages so thay are good for the squad, we need a lot of depth. :)

I'd keep hold of warnock ,its time for traore to go he's been here long enough .Although rafa never fails to surprise so maybe it could be the other way around.

I don't want Warnock as full back in 4 backline. Really prefer Traore over him everytime. But Warnock played well with wingback position in 3-5-2 (in Newcastle match) but I expected Riise & Aurelio do much better there as well.

If I can choose only one to go it has to be Warnock. But new UCL rules could affect rafa decision but I think few of our homegrown youngsters could be included in european squad such as Anderson, Hammill or Barragan (is he count as our own youngster? since he joined us in his young ages could be the same case as FSP)
