Hello there,

I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you all about a, perhaps surprising, thing: the Swedish Athletic Club fanclub! We are 19 members and we'll hopefully soon take a trip down to Bilbao to see our heroes in red and white in action! :)

Our homepage can be found here. Unfortunately, it's only available in Swedish. But please take some time to check it out and leave a comment in the forum on the page!

The official name of the fanclub is Athletic Fans Suedia - Peña Getxokolmo and you can see our logo here. It features typically Swedish things.

Since I write a lot of articles for the page I mentioned above, I'm sure to visit this forum quite often to find news about Athletic!

Agur eta Aupa Athletic!

Nice to see a fellow St Pauli (as well as Athletic Bilbao of course) fan on board.

Any particular reason why you support Athletic and St Pauli?

I like St. Pauli because they play such a lovely crappy football... And because of the leftwing feeling of the club. I've been to Hamburg lots of times and I've seen five matches with the braun-weiss.

The reason I support Athletic is because of their never-give-in-spirit and their transfer policy. Also because I'm very interested in almost anything that's Basque...

Since I was a kid, I've also liked Celtic!

How about you? Why do you support St. Pauli and Athletic?

I'm very much like you, a vast number of Celtic fans have a 'soft spot' for St Pauli because of their supporters' left-wing politics - i think the feeling from them is very mutual towards Celtic as well as there are always lots of St Pauli fans seen supporting The Bhoys on our away European trips. It's just a pity about the financial problems the club are having at the moment...

I like Athletic mainly because of their politics as well, as an Irishman myself i can relate to and support the Basque struggle for self-determination.

Good to hear that you support the Hoops as well.

Great site by the way. ;)

It's not the first time St. Pauli has had financial problems...

Strangely enough, apart from my interest in the situation in the Basque Country I'm also interested in the struggle in Northern Ireland. Honestly, I think the british should get the f**k out of there... But I suppose this forum isn't the right place to discuss that.

I'm glad you liked the site! Did you understand anything? ;)

Quite right about the Brits, but if you wanna discuss that further then you'd probably need to go to the Political forum a bit further down. ;)

I was gonna say about your site that it'd be even better if there was an English version, but for those who could understand it then it looks very attractive with a nice layout, and a fitting shrine to the mighty Athletic!

The page is a part of a Swedish fanpage network called SvenskaFans (not that surprisingly, it tanslates as: Swedish Fans...) and only Swedish versions are available.

Btw, I designed the layout. :)

Haha, we're all the same :D ;)...

Great great Kuba!!!

How did you find more Swedes who're supporting Athletic Club? Looks like I'm the only one in Holland, there are some saying; 'yeah I like them' but that's it in the end...

Anyway, keep up the good work mate... and stay on XT ;).

Oh, almost forgot to say 'Ongi Etorri'!

I found the other fans by writing a text on the site I mentioned and simply asking people if they wanted to join the fanclub. Lots of people visit the different pages on the SvenskaFans network (the Athletic site has about 70-80 daily visits), so finding the fans wasn't that difficult.

King_Henrik,

"I like Athletic mainly because of their politics as well, as an Irishman myself i can relate to and support the Basque struggle for self-determination"

Which part do you support? The killing or the NeoNazis? Cause that´s pretty much how tha resistance looks like, and if found on the left scale in politics - you´ll have DEEP TROUBLE supporting that - ah, uh almost forgot that socialism och communism and killing are practically the same :yuck:+-+

And since you have take part for a side, explained why you like tha club, couldn´t we just discuss it like ordinary people. Cuz i´ll just love these kinds of discussion (mainly because i am on the winning side, the good side to say the least).

Your choice.... :star:

Il Principe,

I've given you my reasons for supporting Athletic Bilbao, as an Irishman i'm all too aware of the 'terrorist' tag that is thrown around by Governments who, at the same time as condemning these people, are deploying their own soldiers to continue occupying/oppressing others.

Nothing you say will change how i feel.

I didn't quite understand the second part of your post, so i'm guessing that English isn't your strongest point.

Eskerrik asko, BioJedi! :)

It doesn't matter if you don't understand the language on the website. We don't have to speak the same language to support the same club!

I don't know why most of the discussions about Athletic end up being political. It's the same thing at the forum on the mentioned site. I'm a moderator there and sadly I have to delete political entrys every now and then.

Hi Kuba & King Henrik, you´re welcome
It´s good to see our Basque Forum grow, I´m beginning to feel very alone against the rednoses though  At least we share the passion about Celtic !!!

As you´ll see this is a very friendly forum, it´s often difficult but we´ve tried to keep politics away. Another of the goals of this forum ( at least from the Basques here ) is to inform and help foreigners to know a bit more about our reality, so I hope you to be happy here.

Yeah, i have no intention what so ever to debate some peoples choice of supporting a team who whatever the team may be. But as you can see, you and the one with tha rojalist name "King Henrik" have made a statement for why you support Bilbao. Then on you wonder if politics could be discussed here, and as you could see i respond though it takes two to tango.

you wonder why Bilbao ends up in political discussion? Well, seems to me that the club are building a team policy on political sollutions. Moreover, it is´nt hard to imagine were the discussion will end.

My statement is´nt against the basques. But i would tell that i don´t are afraid about political discussions according the conflict (as one dumbass compared to that of Irland-Great Britain).
