Why is it so difficult to find stats about assists in any of the 3 leagues?

Television always seem to have these stats, but never have I found any site with these kind of stats. It would be interesting to see who is leading the assist league in spain and Italy? Who would lead if both scored goals and assists are counted?

Also, what is an assist? If A player hits a corner and someone scores a goal does that count as an assist? (should not count) If a player shoots and someone else scores on the return does that count as an assist? (should count)

as.com has stats for Spanish clubs, how they base the stats I have no clue. Some even count PKs as an assist, but I never heard about a deflection from a gk being counted as one.

there used to be opta stats at planetfootball, with individual stats for each player. Like shot acc from outside the box, assists, goals, everything

but now the only way to get acess to opta stats is paying

That is great. But I am more into ITaly and Spain than England. Nonethelesss great stats, the kind you would like to see more in football. In american sports they have all kind of stats for everything, I have heard they are crazy about stats in the states.
