Arsenal are in discussions with the Royal of Bank of Scotland to convert the debt they have taken on for construction of their new stadium at Ashburton Grove into a 30-year bond. The stadium will cost £357 million and Arsenal have borrowed £260 million to help finance the project over 14 years. The bond, secured against future income, would make life easier for the Highbury club. More than a decade ago they had a similar bond with the Bank of Scotland to help convert the North Bank into seats.

Keith Edelman, the Arsenal managing director, confirmed that the bond was an option but maintained that discussions were at an early stage. He also confirmed the story, first revealed by The Daily Telegraph, that the club hoped to get £20 million from fans through advance payments for seats at the new stadium, well ahead of its scheduled opening next year.

The advance payments would come from the 6,700 "club level" seats which sell for between £2,500 and £4,750 per season. There is great interest in these seats and Edelman said they were oversubscribed, although as yet no money has changed hands. Fans will have to make an initial payment of £250 when they choose their seats, and a further 50 per cent deposit within 14 days. Existing season ticket holders are also required to pay a deposit of 15 per cent, starting this April, for their season tickets in the new stadium.

Edelman said: "It will come to around £20 million. The money will go the stadium company but it will help with the cash flow and the servicing of the debt." And it means there will be more money for manager Arsène Wenger to spend, although his moves in the transfer window are more likely to feature departures than arrivals.

Edu, having failed to resolve his dispute over a new contract, could be on his way out by this weekend and Wenger would like to get rid of Jens Lehmann but with the goalkeeper keen to reclaim his position as the Germany No 1, and with 18 months left on his contract, that may not happen. Lauren is unlikely to get more than a year's extension but Sol Campbell's new contract - understood to be worth £80,000 a week for another four years – is now with the lawyers.

Shame about Edu & Lauren but really pleased to hear that Sol's contract is pretty much sorted out.

Rumours are now that Lauren has signed a two year extension.

Hope it's true.

Lauren has agreed terms on a new two-year deal at Arsenal.

The African defender's future had been in doubt due to a wrangle with The Gunners over the length of his new deal.

Lauren wanted a two or three-year deal while Arsene Wenger would only offer him a 12-month extension.

With his current deal expiring in the summer, Lauren looked to be heading back to Spain with both Barcelona and Real Madrid keen admirers.

However, it now seems that Arsenal have relented and offered Lauren a two-year deal, which he has agreed to sign.

The 28-year-old was thought to have been offered the chance to sign a pre-contract with Barca to move to Spain in the summer, but the offer of a longer deal at Highbury has convinced him to remain on North London.

Excellent!

He's better than Hoyte or Eboue, and maybe it'll get you to shut up with your stupid X-Files conspiracy theories.

To have lost Lauren on a free would have been one the dumbest things AW has done in his 8 years at THOF.

We do have a few weaknesses in our team this year but in truth Lauren has been solid all season long, let's get a CB, a CM, a winger and a GK than worry about our RB.

I think between Eboue, Hyote and Lauren RB is covered for years to come. I can see Hyote really becoming a superstar in the Ashley Cole mould soon.
