Real Sociedad confirm agreement with Erdem
SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain, June 5 (Reuters)(DS) - Real Sociedad said
on Monday that they had verbal agreements with both Galatasaray
and Arif Erdem for the Turkish international midfielder to move
to the Spanish first division club.
Erdem, 26, has 34 caps to his name and is key component of
of Turkey's Euro 2000 squad.
"Absolutely nothing is signed at the moment but we hope that
in the next few days that the verbal agreement is turned into
something more solid," a Real Sociedad spokesman told Spanish
reporters.
The spokesman added that a three-year contract had been
agreed, subject to Erdem passing a medical.
Turkish media reports earlier on Monday said the transfer
fee would be $3.7 million.
Erdem was part of the Galatasaray side that won the UEFA Cup
last month, the first time that a Turkish club had won a
European club competition.
He scored three goals in just four minutes -- one of the
fastest ever hat-tricks in an international fixture -- against
Northern Ireland in the Euro 2000 qualifiers.
Erdem will join fellow Turkish international Tayfun Korkut
at Real Sociedad.
