Argentines hit Mills in tunnel

The true extent of the Argentina players' lack of grace in defeat by England can be revealed today.

Danny Mills battles with Argentina's Kily Gonzalez (Allsport)

It has emerged that Danny Mills was hit by an opponent in the tunnel while he was giving an interview after England's momentous victory on Friday.

The England right-back did not see who his assailant was and the matter was not taken further. This latest revelation comes after other incidents became public over the weekend. Numerous England players were spat at during the game and Paul Scholes was verbally abused by two opponents after the match when he was also giving an interview.

Some of the Argentinian players, clearly devastated by the defeat, also refused to shake hands and swap shirts with England.

Mills said: 'When you're wiping phlegm off your face for a second time, having nursed a stray elbow only minutes earlier, it takes a degree of discipline not to lose your cool.

'People questioned my discipline before the World Cup and even asked if I should be here at all.

'Before the Argentina game I had more than my fair share of doubters as to how I was going to react but I went out there determined not to let anyone down and show that I had learned lessons from past mistakes.'

Meanwhile, England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson looks certain to make just one change to his England starting line-up for Wednesday's Group F showdown against Nigeria in Osaka.

West Ham's Trevor Sinclair, who did so well after coming on as an 18th-minute substitute in the 1-0 victory over Argentina, will again feature on the left of midfield in the continued absence of injured Owen Hargreaves.

'That was the high point of my career, to be playing for my country in a World Cup,' said the West Ham star. 'I just want to stay in the team now. I feel like part of the squad at last and I'm really looking forward to Nigeria.'

Manchester United's Nicky Butt, who was outstanding against Argentina following his return from injury, is suffering from blisters but is expected to be fit to play alongside Scholes in the centre of midfield. Captain David Beckham is also expected to complete another 90 minutes.

Numerous England players were spat at during the game

Argentine players are such a ****ing disgrace. And they call themselves professional football players.

They pull off every trick in the book to get players red carded and intimidate them just to win and when they lose they act like babies.

Players spat at mills because they thought he would blow his top.
A player hit mills after the game.
Bati fouling beckham (He wasn't looking at the ball he was looking straight at beckham).
Laughing and jeering before the game at the england side.
Simeone trying to taunt Beckham when he was taking the penalty. ( just like the argy keeper was saying "i know where your going to hit it")
Players refusing to shake hands with the England side and swap shirts.

This time it didn't work. I happy for Mills, he showed alot of maturity.
I'm just so ****ing glad we put them our of their misery.
Like sherrie said i wish we knocked them out of the tournament.
Lets hope they don't qualify.

I would laugh my bollocks off if Argentina went out.

Apparently Simeone has said that there were several world class players on the filed on Friday, and none of them were wearing an England shirt. I take it he excluded himself from that statement as well, when Trevor Sinclair made him look like he was wearing concrete boots......

And why they didn't talk about the beckhams ebow into Kilys face, killy was bleeding after that elbow......besides some bad tackles from the england players that they took two yellow cards coz of them...

Great come back i must say

Beckham didn't mean to hit Kily, that was obvious because he had his eye of the ball, not the player unlike some players like bati(no)goal.

How can you even compare a late tackle and a few yellow cards to the level of intimidation and tricks before, at and after the game? You cannot defend what they did whatever you say.

Just makes be laugh at that Drugged up fat git called Maradona decleared "England are scared of Argentina".

There were some rough tackles from both sides Assassin, but let's not forget that football is supposedly a mans game and a CONTACT SPORT! There will be harsh tackles from both sides, it's up to the players to react like MEN (and I know we're not going to agree on THAT after Friday - football the world over suffers from cheating and play acting - too many players get sent off for nothing challenges) and not MICE and throw themselves about - and I concede that England at times are guilty of it, but what are they to do? There seems to be no honour in honesty in football anymore.

As for Kily Gonzales' splattered nose (and it was well broken), it was Beckham's WRIST that hit him, not his elbow, but to be honest I thought he was your best player, and it took great courage for him to carry on with such an injury and still put himself about as he did. But if we're talking about elbow's, Batistuta managed a couple of nice ones himself, and there was an attempted stamp from (?)Poccettino that could've been seriously naughty.

Actually, I've just realised you typed "ebow", which is what U2's "The Edge" uses to play his guitar on some songs. Weird. I'll ignore the "Scumland" comment because I'm an adult, remotely intelligent and can rise above such emotion-driven comments

About the hand of god...it was maradonas hand..and he is the god of foortball ..do you have a problem with that? actually the prove came immediately when he left six english players on the ground digging their graves scoring the best goal ever....

well Assassin old boy, considering you aren't even an Argie, you are definitely their most vehement supporter

I'm not overly suprised at this report, as I must say that a small minority of the Argentinian players are fairly dirty and despicable in their behaviour, but I don't think that all the players would be like that. Veron, for all that is said, is a pretty solid character. Anyway, bring on the Nigerians. Hopefully, we can keep our composure and get through to the next round, after all this excitement

1- Argentina wins over Sweden and go for their third trophy.:hopefull:

2- Keep my mouth shuted about these stuffs, starting from 23th of september, opening day for the university

It is a very different thing when someone kicks a ball at you out of the blue and you fall in the floor putting your hands in your head, than acutally going out there and punching people and spitting at them!

VERY DIFFERENT THINGS

Rivaldo was actually abused by the Turkish guy...he din't do nothing to him..... apart from fighting with his own peaceful and inteligent sword!

THUMBS UP FOR RIVALDO!

He managed not to go up to the guy and kick his head in.....many players would have done that, he din't!

oh well, this is funny.
first of all, theres nothing of this sh¡t taped, and thats hard to believe having lots of cameras. and we know that nothing scapes from the tv. (except for the things in the tunnels).
secondly, a few weeks ago, a brazilian player punch sorin from the back after he won the copa du brazil with cruzeiro. then the coward ran away.
thirdly, in a roma - lazio match, zago spat on simeones face, and thats taped. then a italian journalyst asked simeone if he was going to report it to the italian federation, but he answered that things that happened in the pitch stays in the pitch.
