LONDON, June 1 (ZoomSoccer) – Graeme Souness has made his first signing as Blackburn boss, when the former Benfica manager paid Manchester United £1.5 million for defender John Curtis.
The England Under-21 star, who has impressed during his loan spell with First Division club Barnsley, was in the Tykes side playing in Monday’s First Division Play-off Final against Ipswich.
Barnsley were looking to sign Curtis on a full-time basis, but the Yorkshire side could not afford the transfer fee demanded by the Manchester club and Souness was there to clinch the 22-year-old’s signature.
Meanwhile, the Blackburn manager has re-emphasized once again that Irish international Damien Duff is not for sale, telling rivals to forget about trying to poach the 21-year-old left-winger.
