Well, our beloved Roma travels to Ancona this weekend for our fourth matchup ever against them. Ancona, of course, is that last place club that is certain to relegate. It's a must win for any club in the table. Still, they've bolstered their lineup a bit in January since we last beat them in the fall. They acquired Celtic goalkeeper Magnus Hedman on loan, Corrado Grabbi, Mario Jardel and Dino Baggio. Roma enters the match with a terrific mental state after one of our club's biggest wins ever. I see a win, hopefully a substantial one. I hope we play well, too. We shouldn't underestimate Ancona or anyone, especially playing away. In other match ups with Ancona:

04/10/1993 Ancona-Roma 1-1
11/22/1992 Roma-Ancona 2-1

Potential starting lineups/benches from Gazzetta:

31 Marcon
24 Sartor*
3 Bilica
2 Bolic
6 Milanese
8 D. Baggio
4 Andersson
7 Berretta
18 Goretti
23 Ganz
19 Pandev

A disposizione
12 Cerioni
5 Giacobbo
14 Esposito
13 Maini
28 Zavagno
11 Helguera

ROMA 4-4-2
22 Pelizzoli
2 Panucci
5 Zebina
19 Samuel
4 Chivu
30 Mancini
11 Emerson
15 Dacourt
8 Lima
10 Totti
18 Cassano

A disposizione
12 Zotti
31 Dellas
32 Candela
17 Tommasi
27 De Rossi
21 D'Agostino
23 Carew

Every match is a big match and so this is yet another

I agree maybe D'Ago should play left side as we may need to attack to break down Ancona but they arent attacking or defending well!!!

I expect a win by about 2-0 maybe... Samuel and Totti

Playing Lima against Juventus is ok as they had Camoranesi and stuff but playing him in a match against Ancona? No way!

I think Cap will field D'ago. Afterall, we're meeting a really crappy side here, which means Cap could do something else! Primo, do you know why either Grabbi or Jardel seems to be in the starting lineup or the bench? That's strange!

I'm 100% sure that we leave Del Conero with 3 points! We can't fail against this terrible Ancona with -31 in goal difference after a match like.........you know...... .......4-0 :star:

There is no way Lima is getting benched. Capello may opt for the tridente simply because its Ancona, but he will not bench anyone from the Juve win. Only player who may be benched is Panucci, to make way for Carew. Montella is a week away from rejoining the squad and I think he couldn't come back at a better time. If Montella hits a usual scoring streak, we will be unstoppable.

Let's not get overconfident, remeber the visit to Venezia in the spring of 2002? They were rockbottom but led 2:0 until the final minutes , we got the draw with a lot of luck and help from the referee. We shouldn't take anything for granted. The players should not underestimate anyone in Seria A.

I think that we don't need to play 4-4-2 in this game, no doubt Ancona will play with 10 men at the back so we need more attackers, and a typical striker like Carew would be very useful.

If Montella doesnt comes back then I say 4-4-2 with D'Ago instead of Lima. And if we dont have enough firepower bring in Delvecchio, not Carew, Im sick'n tired of him. Let him go back to Valencia at the end of the season and give Delvecchio more chances to score and maybe he can prove his valor again to remain here as a great sub or even sell him for a decent price. But not fielding D'Ago, a promissing young player to play Carew? Naaah

I want to see both Carew and D'Agostino on the pitch, we on't need Lima for that one because we won't have to defend that much, I am sure they'll play with 10 men at the back and relying on a rare counterattack. Carew will be useful for breaking such defence and will free space for Totti and Cassano. Of course if Montella comes back that would be best, but it's highly unlikely. Delvecchio right now is not in form at all, he was simply awful in the both Cup games against Milan.

How will we pitch Totti, Mancini, Cassano, D'Agostino and Carew in our starting 11? Ok they are a small team but they're playing home and it is way too ofensive (for a start at least).

Put D'Agostino in Lima's palce in the usual 3-4-1-2 formation. I don't think we will have too much problems defensively, after all Ancona has scored just one goal in their last 7-8 games and we have the best defence in the league.

Perhaps, but it turns into a 3-2-3-2, its pornographcly offensive, I'd rather wait for the second half (if needed) to place a formation like this. Becuz if they score it could turn into Brescia vs Roma 2

I don't see why we should go with the (4-4-2) again. I think Capello decides on his tactics opponent by opponent. I don't think he has set models in his mind. I don't see why we shouldn't come out with the (3-4-1-2) and attack Ancona. This is one of those games where Totti may have a doppietta including a cucchaio. Ancona is the worst team in Serie A and anything but 3 points is a DISASTER. Give Carew one more start because after this game, reports say Montella will be available again.

Ancona may be the worst Serie A team, but they aren't the same squad now, they used to be in " girone andata".
Mario Jardel may be older than back in the days with Galatasaray but he's a damn dangerous player and we'll have to play carefully and not to offensive.
Last season we also lost to Como who never won a Serie A game before.
A concentrated playing defense is what i want to see...and a damn win no matter what it costs.

You cannot compare last year's Roma to this one. Last season, we lost to Como cause we stunk. This a Scudetto-caliber club now.

But if you remember the first game against them in Rome it was 0-0 at halftime, and they actually had some good chances to score.

Juve for instance drew against Lecce away...and could have even lost if Buffon wouldn't have caught this pallonetto at the counter attack in 2nd half.

All i'm saying is that we have to be carefull and play EVERY game as it is a final! No arrogance when 1-0 ahead like Udinese and then conceid the equalizer in 88th minute.
